Portal 2 announced
Sometime between playing Bad Company 2, drinking an entire bottle of rum, and feeling sorry for myself, Portal 2 was officially announced! The front cover of April's Game Informer will feature it, as will the back cover. "Our 12-page cover story gives you the first details on Portal 2's new gameplay mechanics, storyline, and some surprising new twists." Awesomely, it will feature multiplayer co-op... -

Assassin's Creed II now available on Steam
It's out! Well, it is in Europe, Asia, and Australia. Strangely enough, the USA don't get it until March 9th. Even stranger is that it's not available at all via the UK Steam store. This means your only real options is a Euro store such as France for 49.99 EUR, or the AU store for 49.99 USD. The choice is obvious.... -

Atkinson funded 'gaming worse than smoking' group
The plot thickens. Remember the article we ran regarding the Channel Ten News report on video games being as damaging as smoking cigarettes? Well, it turns out that Michael Atkinson - the South Australian Attorney General single-handedly standing in the way of reformed games classification in this country - funded it with tens of thousands of dollars...... -

Portal updated again, delivers new ending
Portal has been updated again, the change-log noting "Added valuable asset retrieval". This time, it adds a new ending, which you can see for yourself in this article's video embed. Whether there's anything else not yet discovered remains unknown. For those unaware of Tuesday's Portal update and what unfolded, here's a run down from the Steam forums... -

Steam most certainly headed to Mac
Over the course of the last two months we've seen numerous reasons to believe that Valve has been developing Steam for the Mac. Today they started sending around not-so-cryptic imagery affirming that suspicion, as featured in this article. There isn't much more to report at this stage, but I imagine we can expect an official announcement very soon.... -

Bad Company 2 is now available on Steam!
The moment all (most?) of us has been waiting for has arrived! Bad Company 2 is now unlocked on Steam, and the GU servers are full. I'm currently decrypting my game files and will jumping on for a few rounds - and then be trying to pull myself away for some more sleep. See you on the battlefield...... -

Leaked footage from the Halo Reach beta
Some Halo Reach beta footage has made its way onto the net thanks to Taiwan's Game News Network. I'm not a Halo fan, or a console FPS player, but it does look cool - it even has jet-packs... -

Natural Selection 2 confirmed for Steam release
Unknown Worlds Entertainment had a bunch of us feeling quite nervous for quite a while - what with their privately hosted Natural Selection 2 pre-order system and no announcement about method of delivery. Thankfully, they've now come out of the woodwork and announced the game will indeed be available on Steam. Not only that, but existing pre-orders will be transferable to the popular Valve digital distribution platform...... -

'How Not to be a Noob at Bad Company 2'
This was first brought to our attention by GU member Fleshy, and has since been posted in the forums. But, with Battlefield: Bad Company 2's imminent release just 15 hours away, I wanted to make sure everyone who hasn't played yet gets a crash course on how it all works. Sit down, strap in, and pay attention - but note that the commentary does contain some swearing...

by cmdr_lynchieThe first two instalments of the Mass Effect series are widely considered to be some of the best games ever made. Certainly they rank among the greatest RPGs. With the outstanding quality of their story telling, and their stunning audio and visuals, they set the bar so high for the third instalment that some began to wonder if disappointment was inevitable. Thankfully the doubters have been proven wrong, as with Mass Effect 3 Bioware has not only cleared the bar, but they raised it several not...
