  • CryEngine 3 goes 3D

    CryEngine 3 goes 3D

Most gamers already thought the prospect of Crytek's CryEngine 3 was rather sweet. 'Better graphics' than Crysis, support for current generation consoles, and a leap from the jungle to the cityscape of New York with Crysis 2. Well here's the icing on your cake; CryEngine 3 will feature full and tailored support for 3D gaming. Eat up!...

BC2 released in US, pre-loads in AU/UK, patched

That was a bit of a mouthful. To elaborate; Battlefield: Bad Company 2 is now being played by Americans right across the United States - that's if they've downloaded the additional 300mb patch which delivers "assorted fixes, some perf improvements, fov controllable via Settings.ini (fov=55 default I think)". An official patch change-list is expected later today......

The Bad Company 2 release confusion

Looking forward to Battlefield: Bad Company 2? Me too. I've even updated the GU theme in anxious anticipation. But before you set your alarms and prep Steam for launch, forget everything you thought you knew, because it seems the release schedule for Bad Company 2 still isn't quite clear. Here's what we do know, right now:...

    GU Monthly: February 2010

Welcome to the first of many monthly re-caps at GU, starting with the month just past; February 2010. Here we'll get a chance to have another look over recent releases, industry happenings, and some of the award-worthy and sometimes stupid things we've said in comment and debate.....

Portal updated with code [cracked, updated]

The last we heard of Portal 2 was way back in 2008, when we were told it was happening by project leader designer Kimberly Swift. Since then, virtually nada. Oh how we've pined for something, anything! Now though, Portal has been unexpectedly updated with "Changed radio transmission frequency to comply with federal and state spectrum management regulations". The word on the web is that we've been handed a set of clues......

Don't turn on your PlayStation 3

Update: it now looks like this bug has been squashed. Please resume normal activities. Over the past few hours I've seen wide-spread PS3 panic all over the web - angry posts on forums and distress calls on Facebook. It turns out that if you don't have a Slim model, a bug in the system's clock functionality is causing game crashes and losses of data - missing trophies and PSN video rental access are being reported. Hit the jump for the hard-word from Sony......

'Gaming causes more harm than smoking'

The public consultation period for the heated R18+ classification debate is over. Thousands of note-worthy submissions have been made, including a 17 page demolition of the South Australian Attorney General, Michael Atkinson, by Paul Hunt - formerly Deputy Director of Australia's Classification Board. It's a shame then, with such intelligent and credible support for the tightening of classifications, that a flurry of mindless press continues to corrupt public opinion with scare-tactics and outrageous hyperbole.....

    Brink release date revealed

Perhaps inadvertently, a Gamestop sweepstakes promotion is the first sign of an 'official' Brink release date. Given that the promo is in conjunction with Bethesda - they even updated their blog talking about it - I guess we can safely expect the game on September 7th, 2010......

Maybe Steam really is headed to the Mac

A month ago we reported on Chris Green's LinkedIn profile, with some details that seemed suspiciously like Valve were making plans to send Steam the way of Mac OS. Now, with the release of the new Steam beta, more hints have been discovered......

  • Mass Effect 3 review
    by cmdr_lynchie
The first two instalments of the Mass Effect series are widely considered to be some of the best games ever made. Certainly they rank among the greatest RPGs. With the outstanding quality of their story telling, and their stunning audio and visuals, they set the bar so high for the third instalment that some began to wonder if disappointment was inevitable. Thankfully the doubters have been proven wrong, as with Mass Effect 3 Bioware has not only cleared the bar, but they raised it several not...
