Harbinger points out in the forums that you can now get your hands on some Command & Conquer action, completely free of charge.
Why? Shameless promotion, of course. EA has decided to give away some of its older, better games to promote one of its newer, unanticipated ones - being Command & Conquer 4, which is now in public beta.

Chris Taylor's Kings and Castles announced
Creator of Supreme Commander, Gas Powered Games, has just announced their 'next big thing'. It's Kings and Castles, which they've just started video blogging about. I'm not big on fantasy, and I'm a terrible RTS player, but this should generate a lot of excitement amongst fans of either.
"It's an epic RTS that will let you take on the role of one of three powerful kings vying for control of an all-new, original fantasy world. For more info, plus a video of Chris Taylor being bitten by a horse" tells the studio's website. Hit the jump for the full press release...... -

Street Fighter IV for iPhone revealed
IGN have set fighting fans alight with anxious curiosity revealing an exclusive scoop on Street Fighter IV coming to the iPhone. But not the hardcore fighters, of course. They think the idea is kind of a bad joke.
There is some real promise, though. As the article explains, "this is no quickie, banged-out port. Capcom has taken months to come up with suitable controls for a platform with no physical buttons, employing a virtual pad and move buttons to recreate the arcade stick right on the touchscreen."... -

Bad Company 2 unavailable from 8PM-11PM today
DICE were courteous enough to let us know there's some scheduled downtime today, from 8PM to 11PM AEST (9PM to 12AM AEDT). During this time work will be done on the EA master servers - hopefully fixing the friends list once and for all? With any luck the outage won't be as long as forecast. For those of you who jump on once they've wrapped us, let us know if there are any clear network performance differences or fixes... -

Bad Company 2 demo tutorial
Downloads of the Battlefield: Bad Company 2 demo have eclipsed 2 million. That's a lot of players, and that's just the demo on the PlayStation Network and Xbox LIVE Marketplace - PC beta users are not included.
To help get even more of you into the action, DICE have followed Rebellion's lead and released a demo tutorial trailer which outlines how the game should be played. It certainly can be a bit confusing initially at least, so with any luck this will help new players hit the ground running, quite literally.... -

Atkinson: gamers scarier than bikies
ABC's Good Game have had the pleasure, or displeasure, of interviewing South Australian Attorney General Michael Atkinson. Unsurprisingly, his paranoid ignorance has delivered another few gems of conversation, including his explanation that he feels his family is more at risk from gamers than the motorcycle gangs who also hate him.
I'm certain that bikers state-wide are up-in-arms that they've been likened to such a broad demographic of society. Who knows, maybe they'll now want to make a point that they're far scarier minority than Atkinson suggests...... -

by cmdr_lynchieThe first two instalments of the Mass Effect series are widely considered to be some of the best games ever made. Certainly they rank among the greatest RPGs. With the outstanding quality of their story telling, and their stunning audio and visuals, they set the bar so high for the third instalment that some began to wonder if disappointment was inevitable. Thankfully the doubters have been proven wrong, as with Mass Effect 3 Bioware has not only cleared the bar, but they raised it several not...
