My Dad actually used this a lot to grab music singles, heh

Anyone have any suggestions on what I should be telling him to use now that it's shut down?

same thing he should've been using prior to the shutdown - usenet

He's over 60. And downloads singles.

Something a little more straight forward than Usenet.

itunes - tell the greedy bugger to pay for 'em ;P

or tell him all songs have been reduced to 6 seconds in length and point him toward the preview play button

If you have a dedicated HTPC or file server, set SABnzbd up on there to take your Usenet requests. If not, Newsleecher is a brilliant Windows app.

Search engine preferences is NZBmatrix and Newzbin.

use sab regardless - i have a folder on my desktop, just drop nzbs in and run sab when i feel like, it takes care of the rest

I've using NZBmatrix for a couple of reasons. One, it's got cheap lifetime membership. Two, it doesn't make forced donations on my behalf as part of its fees.

Newzbin has a far superior search mechanism though.
