please refer to this thread on how to get your graphics to work.
Had a lot of trouble trying to get my sound to work for bioshock, these are some of the fixes i came accross
Add -dx9 to your launch options
Add -nosound to your launch options
Run as administrator
Run in xp:SP2 mode
Run in windows 2000 mode
Update your sound drivers
and a major one for alot of people : "Enable Stereo mixing, to do this browse to Start > Control Panel > Sound (in classic view). Once done switch to the Recording tab which will show the currently active inputs on your system (e.g. Line in, Microphone). Right click in the clear space below these devices and select the option for Show disabled devices. This should show an additional device called Stereo mixing, right click on this device and select Enable"
Some people had to plug in something into their mic port to get sound
and I had to do the last 2 and then also, disable my microphone in the recording settings.
A few other fixes can be found here : BioShock: No Sound?
