    Skyrim mod enables online co-op

I enjoyed Morrowind, Oblivion and indeed Skyrim. But there are few games that leave me feeling like it wouldn't have been better if I had a friend along for the ride. I'm not the only one with that thought, but "AwpSoLeet" is the one with the enthusiasm and talent to make it a reality. Skyrim Online, currently in alpha stages of development, adds co-op to the game and supports voice chat! We've embedded a video which may illustrate why you might want to wait for a beta release, but there's real promise here and I for one am exci...

    Skyrim receives 1.3 patch

After the blunder that was Skyrim 1.2, Bethesda has quickly struck back with another update for the massively popular fantasy RPG. Of particular note: dragons should not longer fly backwards and player resistances should now be working again. There's a couple performance tweaks in there as well.
    • General stability improvements
    • Optimize performance for Core 2 Duo CPUs
    • Fixed Radiant Story incorrectly filling certain roles
    • Fixed magic resistances not calculating properly
    • Fixed issue with

Skyrim "lag" fix for PS3 may never arrive

Unfortunately for our PlayStation 3 brethren, they may never see a fix to the biggest issue plaguing their Elder Scrolls V: Skyrim experience. Fallout: New Vegas director, Joshua Sawyer, says the 'PS3 lag' problem is an "an engine-level issue with how the save game data is stored" and would take a "large time commitment" to fix. Elaborating, he said "the longer you play a character, the more bit differences on objects (characters, pencils on tables, containers, etc.) get saved off and carried around in memory, I think we've seen ...

Skyrim's 1.2 patch makes dragons fly backwards

Yesterday's The Elder Scrolls V: Skyrim patch has fixed some issues but created a whole lot of new ones, players are reporting. Character resistances no longer work in post-patch, meaning you'll have no protection from fire, ice, magic and so-forth - leaving you to take full damage. Oh, and dragons can fly backwards now.

    Skyrim review

Skyrim is the latest installment in the Elder Scrolls franchise, and after over 40 hours of play, we finally feel we have seen enough of the game to justify a balanced review. While it received almost universal praise from critics in early reviews, Skyrim is not a game without issues. But whatever its flaws, the scale of the world is undeniably impressive, with enough content to rival many MMOs. Almost unbearably slow to start, you are eventually introduced to a world filled with the type of adventure and drama that a good RPG needs. The High King is dead, murdered, the land gripped by civil war, and an ancient evil has returned to rain fire and ice from the sky. What more could you want? "Skyrim is a world full of life, adventure, and more content than you can shake an enchanted stick at." Better model animation perhaps. Character animation and lighting is a real let down, only marginally better than Fallout 3. And for a Bethesda ...

    RAGE review

RAGE is the latest title from the studio that pioneered the first person shooter, six years after their last major release. In it you awake as the lone survivor of an "Ark", a century after 2029's Aphophis asteroid impact turned the planet into a wasteland. The plot is unashamedly unoriginal, but it's not the just the world of RAGE that id Software has been working on for half a decade. "Taking heads off with the boomerang-like Wingstick might have been my most satisfying exploit." RAGE is based on the new id Tech 5, a flexible cross-platform engine designed to run across all major gaming systems using the same assets. First impressions of this new engine weren't smashing however, delivering a few decisive crashes to desktop and a ton of texture popping when it got going. Owners of AMD graphics cards had it even worse, experiencing truly awful performance, if they were able to run the game at all. But the real disappointment for me wasn't those performance issues, rather the c...

    RAGE gets patched

RAGE had a few problems at launch, but it has been patched! Huzzah! Included in the additions and fixes are vsync and texture cache options within the menu, as well as the ability to set your own anisotropic filter level. It's noted that for those of you with AMD/ATI cards who are having a ton of issues, you should paste +jobs_numThreads 0 into RAGE's launch options within Steam for a temporary work-around.

For the patch notes in their entirety, with extra information and instruction, make sure you read this...

RAGE will make you do so as it's riddled with problems

In keen anticipation of a hefty play session and the writing of a review I fired up RAGE for the first time last night. It turns out that not even the great id Software is immune to releasing a bad console port, and RAGE certainly appears to be one. Like many others I'll have to wait until some fundamental matters are addressed before playing, as the PC release is currently riddled with problems. When the game wasn't crashing with errors I wasn't able to enable vsync to reduce tearing, or even change the graphics quality. There's als...

Skyrim confirmed to be a Steamworks game

For those who love Steam you'll sure to love the news that Skyrim is Steamworks integrated. For those that don't, well, too bad I guess. Bethesda's Pete Hines has confirmed to PC Gamer that Skyrim will use Steam, not GFWL (Games for Windows LIVE) as previously rumoured. This confirmation was then syndicated on the official @ElderScrolls Twitter account.

Skyrim won’t use Games for Windows Live on PC, will use Steamworks instead [PC Gamer]...

"The Legacy of id" promotes Rage

A new video from Bethesda has been unveiled, showing off id Software's upcoming first person shooter; Rage. There's not really many Rage specifics detailed, but a whole lot is said about how awesome and amazing id Software is. You'll hear from John Carmack and a bunch of other studio veterans, who talk about their invention and perfection of the genre, with some nice snippets of the forthcoming Rage itself.
