CS:GO gets a substantial content update

Counter-Strike: Global Offensive was just updated again, making a number of changes and additions to the game. The default map has been switched from Inferno to Train, which appears to be a far better recreation than Inferno, apart from the fog issue. There are also a bunch of new weapons: the Para, the TEC-9 Pistol, the SG 552 (pictured), and the AUG....

    Counter-Strike: Global Offensive beta impressions

I've been shooting some face in the CS:GO beta for the first time this evening, and there's quite a bit to talk about. I should preface this impressions article with the note that while I used to play at a national level, it has been years since I've delved into any CS in any serious capacity. I'm sure there will be a number of current day elitists out there who disagree with my opinions, but I'm not claiming this as gospel, so append as much or as little weight to these opinions as you care to....

Global Offensive survey offers beta access chance

Who here is looking forward to Counter-Strike: Global Offensive? Considering that this community's roots were founded in the early betas of Counter-Strike, I'd hope at least a few of you still have an interest! "Sometimes we might add experienced players, other times new players. Sometimes 1.6 players, sometimes CSS players, sometimes people who have played...

The news you might have missed

I've spent the last three weeks getting married, going on a honeymoon, diving The Great Barrier Reef and getting The Bends. It seems a lot went on while I was gone, but rather than spam your RSS, Twitter and Facebook feeds with a dozen new articles, I thought a summary of those stories would be best, prior to business as usual.

Credit card details compromised in Steam hack

Steam has been hacked and it has been disclosed that credit card numbers and other personal information may have been put at risk. Valve know that the hackers gained access to the encrypted database with this information, but are currently unable to ascertain if this database was lifted or if they will be able to break the encryption. This comes just days after the Steam forums were taken offline, the cause of which is believed to be an exploit in the old version of vBulletin that was being run. The full statement from Valve's Gabe Newell can be read below. "Dear Steam Users and Steam Forum Users, "Our Steam foru...

An hour of Counter-Strike: GO competition play

Counter-Strike has always been a very competitive game, and remains the choice of e-sports events such as the World Cyber Games. It's expected that Counter-Strike: Global Offensive will be no different, and this hour of match footage from the Intel-sponsored ESL before the game has even been released is testament to that.
