    RAGE review

RAGE is the latest title from the studio that pioneered the first person shooter, six years after their last major release. In it you awake as the lone survivor of an "Ark", a century after 2029's Aphophis asteroid impact turned the planet into a wasteland. The plot is unashamedly unoriginal, but it's not the just the world of RAGE that id Software has been working on for half a decade. "Taking heads off with the boomerang-like Wingstick might have been my most satisfying exploit." RAGE is based on the new id Tech 5, a flexib...

    RAGE gets patched

RAGE had a few problems at launch, but it has been patched! Huzzah! Included in the additions and fixes are vsync and texture cache options within the menu, as well as the ability to set your own anisotropic filter level. It's noted that for those of you with AMD/ATI cards who are having a ton of issues, you should paste +jobs_numThreads 0 into RAGE's launch options within Steam for a temporary work-around. For the patch notes in their entirety, with extra information and instruction, make sure y...

RAGE will make you do so as it's riddled with problems

In keen anticipation of a hefty play session and the writing of a review I fired up RAGE for the first time last night. It turns out that not even the great id Software is immune to releasing a bad console port, and RAGE certainly appears to be one. Like many others I'll have to wait until some fundamental matters are addressed before playing, as the PC release is currently riddled with problems. When the game wasn't crashing with errors I wasn't able to enable vsync to reduce tearing, or even cha...

This latest behind the scenes look at RAGE explores The Wasteland, its variety of intense missions, as well as co-op and multiplayer combat rally racing. For those that are excited enough to pre-order id Software's latest shooter, JB HI-FI has a neat deal which bundles the game with all three issues of the RAGE comic book series. "As these comic books are not available anywhere else in Australia or New Zealand, gamers will be extremely excited to get their hands on this highly sought after offer...

There is some big weapons, and some big gore. The boomstick is back and there are some interesting new additions such as the boomerang-like "Wing Stick".

"The Legacy of id" promotes Rage

A new video from Bethesda has been unveiled, showing off id Software's upcoming first person shooter; Rage. There's not really many Rage specifics detailed, but a whole lot is said about how awesome and amazing id Software is. You'll hear from John Carmack and a bunch of other studio veterans, who talk about their invention and perfection of the genre, with some nice snippets of the forthcoming Rage itself.

id Software want to make a Quake 1-style reboot

If you just squealed with joy, you're not alone. John Carmack of id Software was recently speaking to Eurogamer, where he said that "strong factions" at the studio have motivation to take the Quake series back to its roots. "We think that would be a more interesting direction than doing more Strogg stuff after Quake 4" he continued to explain....

    More Rage gameplay surfaces

There has been lots going on at E3, including some more demonstrations over at the id Software camp, in the form of a Rage trailer titled "The Well". Personally I think what we've seen of Rage has been entirely hit-and-miss, with some really underwhelming footage. This snippet however looks mighty impressive, at least from an aesthetic perspective if nothing else...

    Brink review

I'm not sure exactly where to start, or how to say it nicely, so I'll start with a very blunt statement and continue to explain why thereafter: Brink is a disappointment. That's not to say it's an entirely bad game, but for me the bad far outweighs the good....

    New Rage gameplay trailer surfaces

We haven't seen a huge amount of actual Rage gameplay yet, but now there's an entire 5 minutes to gawk at, with the release of a trailer taking us into Shrouded clan's bunker. Unfortunately the gameplay looks entirely underwhelming, and has un-sold me on this game. Perhaps I'll buy some beer instead. Have a look for yourself......

id Software's Rage now on iPhone and iPad
