What do you guys think about the clear cases available? are they ok?
Are there any problems in regards to size/space?\
What about EMI?
Im thinking of upgrading my case from a Dell Clamshell style (with quick remove everything) to one. The Dell has no windows or anything and im incredibly vain. :D
They look sweet and even with all the EMI rumors that have been floating around I have never seen or heard of them actually causing a problem. :D
I wouldn't get one personally (They don't appeal to me) but they still look nice. One prob tho, use the supplied gloves or you leave fingerprints all over everything and they come in pieces :x . You have to assemble it yourself as due to the EMI thing, they can't legally sell them as a ready to use case. Something to do with FCC compliancy. :?

I'll think you'll find that to be quite opposite with a lot of places now.
They are being sold prebuilt, rather than giving you the job of putting it together. Have a look HERE at PCCG.
Also it doesn't have to comply to FCC as far as im aware as it does NOT sell with a powersupply :D
Yes a very nice case they are, more for the looks but from what i've seen they are just about as standard as your everyday atx case :) (see through of course 8) ).
Has no or very little EMI control because of the material its made from :D

Thanx for those corrections Jono, wasn't entirely sure, just posted of memory (which is apparently as good as my DDR chip ATM when used at speed LOL)
Acrylic cases are nicely designed, they have a thicker backing for the motherboard for add support etc. No EMI protection at all.. plastic.. but most reviews have said they have had no problems, but mind you this doesnt warrent sticking your pc right next to your subwoofer or something.. They can be done up very nicely but they aint my cup o tea
Thanks for that, I also talked to Braindance on Msn last night and he told me there were some problems with the un-assembled ones not fitting properly?
They may have been some instances but its all machine cut, so i doubt there would be any problems
the all perspex cases look sweet. Every pc store i go to theres always at least 1 pc on display with the all clear case from MODWARE
they look damn sweet. but most retailers say that they are really just for display... i personally would'nt go for one cause my place is very...... RF infested....
mobile phones.... speakers... even just plan RF and emi from NEIGHBOURS ...i can high pitch noise 24/7 from somewhere and my LCD monitor power thingy picks it up... very annoying
Thanks for that info, Ive decided not to get one till I move the speakers away from right next to the case. That might be a while away yet.
With fans sucking air out one side and in the other, wouldnt there be some dust build up in the corners/seams of the case? you could clean it but that combined with small scratches/scuffs from every day wear and tear would make the case look a bit scruffy after a while wouldnt it?

A small can of compressed air should do the job fine if you do it regularly, and keep it clean. The addition of dust filters you you really want would also minimise it, but reduces air flow and personally they dont look too good either.
A microfibre cloth, the anti static kind would keep it clean and scratch free if you have no access to compressed air.
Well thats what i'd do anyway :P
On a side, expensive as compressed air cans air, if you're feeling low on money, hop the computer into the car and drive to the nearest servo :)
Sure it looks weird pulling the air pipe into your car but it does the job :P
