Got problem with computer

WINXP, file NTFS.SYS keeps coming up on the setup, CPU is a 2.5GHz, but it is not over heating, no idea if it is the motherboard or CPU causing the problem. Works completely fine on my other computer, what is wrong? :cry:

Ahh is it the problem where it says "ntfs.sys file is corrupt or missing"? Or something along those lines?

I'll just assume this is the problem... :| (hopes u have a winXP cd)

1. Start your computer with the Windows XP CD-ROM in the CD-ROM drive.
2. You are prompted with the following option:
To repair a Windows XP installation using Recovery Console, press R

When you are prompted with this option, press R to select it.

3. At the command prompt, type the following commands (press ENTER after each command):

cd \windows\system32\drivers
ren ntfs.sys ntfs.old

Note This step renames the corrupted Ntfs.sys file to Ntfs.old. If the 4. Ntfs.sys file is not found, then the file was missing.
At the command prompt, type the following command, and then press ENTER:

copy cd:\i386\ntfs.sys drive:\windows\system32\drivers

Where cd is the drive letter for the CD-ROM drive that contains the Windows XP CD, and drive is the drive that you installed Windows XP to.

5. Remove the Windows XP CD from your CD-ROM drive, type quit, and then press ENTER to quit the Recovery Console.
6. Restart Windows XP

Yeah this is ripped from the Microsoft Knowledge Base - but it is a great place for finding solutions to probs like these.

Or you can just run the automated recovery feature.

I know win2k has it, not sure on winxp though. Jono?

That basically scan's and does a file check, data integrity check etc and fixed/replaces whats at fault. :)

Could it hurt doing it anyway? I mean, in my sake to be sure?

I dont think it has any conflicts or errors, but I need something to do for the next 2 weeks anyway, as I am on holidays :wink:
