Man darwin doesn't get enough popular bands here...

Like Queens of the Stone Age are touring aussie next year and they not coming anywhere near Darwin with a 30 foot pole... Evanescence (for all you nu-metal fans) is comin (to aussie) next year as well and again no arrival in darwin... all we ever get is shitty second rate aussie bands... I mean no offense to the aussie bands but local talent is boring after a while... we so need a big concert with international acts... The best international act concert was Bomfunk MC's and that rocked... Just wish more would come...

Stupid darwin... :(

Post 2

we'll you just missed something for kate, and the butterfly effect

Queenies are good, however they cost way to much ($80 in melb)
3 years ago they were 20 bucks... and they had better music (rated R album music!)

But for another person that cant find a gigg guid in darwin... heres your upcoming gigs that are a must see

yeah but those are localish acts...

Ministry of sound is ok but Im talking about awesome ass bands like Radiohead and blah blah

Post 4

Well on the upside,
Did anyone hear about how they want to make an ice skating ring in darwin! Near where the deck chairs cinemas are. That would make darwin a lil less boring.. cept i don't think it will ever work and it would be real expensive i reckon.

Post 5

Darwin is cool.
Thou shalt not besmirch Darwin.

Post 6

Darwin is a hole...
The only thing thats good about this hole is DGA...
Other than that it sux

Post 7

Ahh the ever whinging youth saying Darwin has nothing. Wait until you grow up, if you ever leave you won't be able to wait to get back.

Post 11

Lived here all my life, dont plan on leaving.

Post 12

I'll take Darwin over anything and Ive been to a lot of big cities.

Nice places to visit ... but im gonna grow old her :)

here sunshine :)

dude, you need to get out more, darwin is known for its laid back attitude, and just general not caring, i can drive for 20 minutes, and spend an evening in the middle of nowhere doing 'hick stuff' as spero says it, and come home and sleep in my comfy bed again.. darwin is too cool and too easy going for me to want to go anywhere else

and we get good bands up here, acdc (a few years back, still counts), regurgitator, and the above mentioned ministry of sound etc etc.. apparently im going to that.. according to minorci.. heh

im with spero, im gonna grow old her ;)

Lol true..

I remember a friend and I were wagging a class in 9th grade (hey the teacher was a cow :P) but while we were down at the shop grabbing a drink this dude came up to us and asked us to sign a petition for an ice skating doobie up here. We first thought it was a joke, I mean could u imagine the cost to keep that thing running and with our population itd be hard to keep it going, but I remember going to one when my dad lived in Townsville and that was pretty cool. So yeah I signed it.

Funny to think the word is still going around :)

Post 15

If they build an ice-skating rink in Darwin, i will vote yes, just so theres one more place to escape the heat :)

Post 16

ppffft ice skating rink..... please.... theme park anyone? woohoo....

i am slowly comming to think darwin is okay, when i was under 18, okay so i was only here for a year then, but i hated the place, now that im over 18 its slightly better.,,,, but when i hear about kickass bands touring, that we dont get to see i do get annoyed, or really cool productions like Rocky horror picture show or the lion king or whatever.... stupid middle of nowhereness.

Post 17

Last year i went on some crappy tour with my class to the Darwin entertainment centre in the city. Any way our tour guide sorta thingy told us that they had have desiney on ice perfom on the stage we were standing on. He told us that they had layed down a special mat and stuff and had freezed the ice on it. Everything was fine for awhile until they realise there was a hole in the mat and of corse Darwin was just too hot, the ice started to melt. And they flooded the stage and the carpet .. and they were cleaning up the smell and the water for weeks.
I aint too sure if i believe it or not, i mean just to be able to get ice to freeze in darwin is hard enough.

I have been to the adelaide ice skating ring Mt Thembington.. GREAT fun. I would love one in darwin but i doubt it would work

I lived in Adelaide for 10years, when i first came to darwin i didn't like it as much but after a year i really started to like the place. So about 6 years on i am glad i live here and no where else. I go down south at least once a year and its just not layed back. You can't go walking through the main shopping centre with bare feet.

Yeah i hear that a lot :P
It sux so much now cos we are so isolated maybe if something awesome happens in the near future then it might get better... till then darwin is a hole.

Post 19

Dunno what youd' mean by awesome, perhaps get bombed by some foreign country perhaps. Then you'd see there's absolutely nothing to do - Darwin will be a great big hole - or rather bowled in giant glass plate.

Everyone I knew would whinge like you - then they started driving. They shut up pretty quickly.

Post 20

Look, I'm from QLD - central in fact, and it wasn't too hard to jus skip on down to Brissy for a concert. So i cried my eyes out when we moved to Darwin and left the music scene behind :'( BUT the good news is that 4 years ago we had NO where near the amount of bands/artists even bothering to come up here....so even tho it's still kinda shit - fly away if it's not good enough, or do something about it :| Fuck dudes, 28 days and living end came up again for Bass inna Grass so what's the problem??

Hehe... well when I start driving I probably will too but until then whinge away! :P

Post 22

Hmmm I do agree with u partly leonami Darwin sux as there is not much to do here at all. An ice skating rink like Adelaides Mt Thebarton would be good, just two ice rinks and a snow slope stuck in a giant freezer.

I reckon what they need in Darwin is more of a city night life and a shopping mall that takes more than 5 minutes to go from one side to the other.

Also the amount of little juvenile delinquents running amok in Darwin is shocking. If they were down south they probably wouldve all been shot by now. Mean thing to say but alot of them deserve it.

Not saying there isnt crime down south just seems to be alot more attacks on innocent people in Darwin.

DGA is one of the things that makes Darwin less boring and gives us geeks something to look forward to.

Post 23

those little delinquents are people too y'know, with familys and such..... its the 'laid back' darwin lifestyle that lets those kids get away with all of that....
there isnt a thing that can be done about it, not after laws and all that stuff comes into it. cant send them home, cant send them to prison, cant put them somewhere because most are over 16, and at that point you cant touch them....
having said all this, i hate them too.... it sucks to not be able to walk 500m to the shop at night without thinking some 12 year old will pull a knife or something on you.

Post 24

Delinquents aren't people. They are the enemy.

Post 25

I've always been a firm believer of the whole 'you make your own fun' philosophy.

I recantly visited Brain-Dance who did nothing but bitch about Darwin and moved to brisbane. When I got there he was craving for excitement. Trying to tell me to help him find something to do etc.

The other day me and my friends had a paper plane competition off the top of the cinema stairs in casuarina.

I lost however... stupid paper planes.

Post 26

that links with my boredom is relative philosophy :)

Post 27

Darwin doesn't suck.. there is plenty of stuff to do you just have to DO it. Most people are either too close minded to bother trying anything new - and that includes me!

Post 28

with the delinquents [fark, spelling or what??] - it's not all teenagers. So when you skate with your mates at night, any night of the week in fact, simply because you love the sport and you need the exercise - it's now a fact that you will at least run into 30 gangster children [aged 8 - 18] either on bikes and/or carrying a minimum of a weapon to every two. These are trolley poles, knives, batons, 4x3's, etc. One has to ask - "What the fu k?" it's sooooooo stupid and the police are helpess to stop it. It's not people like skaters that cause damage either socially to the community or physically to property damage. It's the kids whose parents really don't give a damn, and the kids that would rather implement group thug mentality then just having some fun with their friends. And sorry, that doesn't just happen in Darwin - and they aren't just shot down South. Instead, we [skaters] were having to arm ourselves with poles, and chains to use in defense against not just the gangsters, but the Asian gangs and drug farked homeless people. Darwin is more toned down....but not in the sense of youngsters roaming the streets.

Post 29

i live in sydney and the same thing kinda happens, i dont skate as much as i would like to cause of stupid wankers going on with the typical " ehh aussie fag skater cunt bro" with the ridiculus hair cuts, i like skating but when i get that shit constantly its just not cool

Post 30

thats half the problem with darwin having a smaller population no bands of festivals wish to go there..sorta like tasmania

here on the east coast it is great for bands and festivals..ohh yeh i cant wait for the big day out

Post 31

darwin smells cause its to far away :D

Can we do that anywhere?

A couple of days before I came out to NZ I was walking through the QVB [Queen Victoria Building, it's one of the big high class mall thingies in the city (Sydney that is)] with a guy and a girl. My male friend collided rather softly with a young teenager in a small group, he was 15 maybe, and my mate appologied. Now my friend is a short, thin, very camp asian guy who has a penchant for black clothes - completely un-threatening - and looks like you could blow him over.

The stranger started some shit at which point I walked back towards the commotion and stepped in and tried to hussle my mate away. It wasn't working and I told the other guy to fuck off.

Don't really remember what happened after that. A knife was pulled, and an ice-cream cone hit me in the head (laugh all you want, but they fucking hurt).

Anyways, my point is that this sort of bad shit happens everywhere. This event occured in the early afternoon on a friday in one of the most respectable areas of the city. You're never really secure without your...?

Post 33

yeah samid does ahve a point, what time was this samid, (probably worte it i just cant raed preoperly or spell)

so im guessing you got an icecream headache? (boom boom)

Post 35

y did this need to be moved to flame wars?

i know what u guys mean aboutt he music scene though. sure in perth its not as bad as in Darwin cause we got BDO and quite a few acts, but none of it is all ages aside from the festivals (ie. 2 a year, BOD and rockit), and that dont work for me bein 17 and all. ide love to live on the east coast with homebake, falls, livid, spendor and any other i cant think of, that would be so fucking mad

Post 36

Because I wanted this to be an example of how we want the more mature whinging to be located.

Post 37

i can see that, like ur new ava aswell

Post 38

(ching?)

llama...it was about 4:00. I was just coming home from uni and there were heaps of people around watching.

shithouse...we all had to deal with being underage at some stage or another, no matter where we live. Also, once you turn 18 you'll perhaps discover that the small local groups play decent music - without all the crappy hype.

Post 39

once you turn 18, everything, well most things, are better.... you have access to more stuff and more entertainment venues.... but untill then you still work and still have school and still have friends.... you want somewhere to kick back and listen to cool music and such on the weekends and in the hols... i was fine for all that when i was in adelaide.... if there wasnt a concert on, ppffft id get my friends and the local youth centre together and we'd organise one.... i went to sooooo many battle of the bands things.... always cool fun.
but when i moved to darwin there werent any kickass youth hangouts or many bands. the most exciting thing for me to do on a weekend was go and hang out with my friends who were always stoned as.... i know you make your own fun, but in darwin there just isnt any of it.... unless you like skating up and down... up and down.... or being a homie wannabe and not speaking english propperly.... hmmmm.....

I never bitched about darwin, more I bitched I had never been anywhere else.

I have always said I would come back to Darwin to retire, and I still plan to, but at the moment, I wanna see some other places.

Im just sick of the shit dj's we have.. play some fkn TRANCE DAMNIT

Having just played 28 shows to 700,000 fans on the “Give me Ed…til I’m Dead” European Tour, Iron Maiden announce their forthcoming DANCE OF DEATH WORLD TOUR to follow close on the release of their new studio album, DANCE OF DEATH.

The European schedule is listed below, after Christmas the tour will continue through mid-March taking in South America, North America, Japan and other areas.

this means that we have metallica in january and iron maiden before the middle of the year, probably not in adelaide but i reckon melb, sysdney and brissy for sure, so yeah gotta agree with the thread title.

UP THE IRONS!!!!

Fleshy and OD might find this interesting too, especially Fleshy!!

the fact that once the dance of death tour is finished maiden will no longer be doing major arena tours but only playing at festivals throughout europe, they will however still be releasing albums so if anyone wants to see em then next year will be your only last chance to see em in australia.

Daz.

Post 43

LoL at the idea for ice rink.

How about Darwin get a proper skating rink for roller blades first. That's worthwhile cause all we have is skateworld right? That's a complete piece of shit.

What Darwin needs is a paintball place !! We have plenty of sunshine and bush land so why not use it by running around shooting each other with paintball guns?

Dripstone High School would make a good place for indoor paintball I reckon, shame it's used as a school. hehe

Post 44

In light of recent events, you're right, Darwin sucks when it comes to the music scene.

I'll be going to Brisbane November 19th for a Neil Young concert, and during April of 2004 I'm going to Sydney & Melbourne for the Radiohead concerts, because that's the closest to Darwin they're coming. ;)

Post 45

I don't see why you think Darwin is so special, I lived in Melbourne for 10 years before coming here.

I don't really mind where I am, home is where the heart is and what you make it.

There's always something to do you just need to use your INITIATIVE!
