Yeah USA laser suck, Replace a good tank with one thats only a little better.
Then their turrets are't all that good compared with super wep general.
I play better in teams of 1 vs 1 too. As then i don't have to worry about my ally not defending their entrance and have tanks sneak up through their base into the back of mine, hint hint phoenix :)

Sorry about the misunderstanding :P

Laser weapon generals are weak by themselves. As part of a team they are invaluable.
To understand why, you should be familiar with the laser turret's capabilities.
1. It is good against all classes of unit: infantry, ground vehicles, and aircraft.
2. Upon firing, the target takes instant damage. There is no way to avoid being hit by a laser once in range (excluding Auroras).
3. Snapfire. While firing on targets within range, turrets will sometimes snapfire on targets out of range or which are normally untouchable, such as Auroras.
4. Stealth detection.
5. Survives anything up to superweapon attacks.
The weakness of laser turrets is versus chinese artillery where the line of sight is weak. US and GLA artillery units both use missiles which turrets shoot down in flight; whereas Chinese inferno and nuke cannon shells cannot be shot down.
With the search and destroy strategy employed, on some terrain turrets can see and destroy chinese artillery. On others they cannot. I have not been able to discern a pattern.
Once one or two rows of turrets have been built, the wise laser general adds a supplementary row of firebases, with a mix of rocket troops and snipers tweaked to match the strengths of opposing generals. As well as boosting the effectiveness of the defensive line, these provide an essential backup defense if and when your power goes down.
A word on power. Turrets suck up a lot of it. Each turret takes 3 units of power, and thus an upgraded cold fusion plant can only power 6 turrets. If you are playing laser general, at points in the game you are dividing your time between building turrets and power stations.
Bear in mind that any opponent worth their salt will try to destroy your power stations. The solution is to
a) widely disperse your stations, building them at a distance apart and all over the map, and
b) to overbuild your power supply. You want to be able to lose around 8 stations without losing turret power. Why 8? Because that's two flights of auroras, the only thing which should or could get past turrets on the way in.
Now by himself the laser general will have a hard time winning against anyone. The laser tank is slow, not that powerful, and it competes with your turrets for power supply. Personally I have felt that laser generals should focus on rockvees and snipevees for ground assault, and to concentrate on spamming drop pads to make a continuous air assault possible. This means being able to replace auroras as fast as they can be killed.
Evidently this does not often happen. By himself the laser general usually loses, mainly because his entire strength is defensive and not offensive.
But he shines in a team. The laser general's own base can provide a refuge for friendly units and buildings, and as the game progresses, he can patiently dig in his colleagues. Since they are liberated from devoting any resources to their own defense, they can be much more aggressive than the enemy.
On terrain - the laser general excels on maps with obvious chokepoints, because he can completely neutralise any groundforces. Rather than relying on many lasers, he can rely on a few closely-packed lasers to efficiently wipe out the enemy as they arrive in twos and threes, instead of a broad front with many targets.
This forces the opposing general to resort to airpower, where again the laser general has a distinct advantage in anti-air. The only thing better than a laser turrent against air units is veteran chaintanks.
The laser general is the ultimate turtle: he can bunkercrawl to secure a large area of the map for his allies. He remains weak against certain classes of attack, such as chinese artillery or GLA sneak attacks, but the judicious application of air power can easily remedy these problems. In short, he is not strong by himself, but he can render a team unbeatable by making the cost of attacking them incredibly high.
