One of my favourite bands, Chris Cornell is a God.
I found it amusing that Hot 100 only started playing Audioslave stuff frequently less than a twelve months ago, but the band has had its first album out since October 2000. They've wasted so much air-time on Nelly and Missy "bushpig" Elliot... the commercialisation of the music industry never ceases to overshadow actual music.
Yeah i aint hurd much of Audioslave myself to this week really when i got around to listening to their albums. I like them they have cool sounds in there songs :P
Samid, you've obviously seen nothing of Audioslave. Take a look at some of the documentaries and interviews, they're far from pretentious - how you could call a merging of Chris Cornell and the three RATM members Tim Commerford, Tom Morello, and Brad Wilk pretentious? They earned their place in fame long before Audioslave. Audioslave as Audioslave earned their spot without bias in my opinion, and wasn't based on the members former bands. Their music isn't revolutionary, they've taken an existing genre and perfected it.
Chris Cornell writes passionately, he doesn't write for the audience, he wrties to express himself. If other poeple can connect to what his songs are about, he's glad, but whether they connect for the same reason he wrote it or not is a mute point. Chris writes cryptically for a reason, he wants to leave his music up to personal interpretation, so it can mean what it needs to mean to you. Would you prefer an artist shove an empty meaning down your throught? It's getting hot in here?
Oh I'm sorry, I'll remember not to debate opinion on message boards in future - I was just under the impression that one of the primary uses of a message board was debate. :)
