After years of waiting it seemed australian radiohead fans were in for a treat this week as the band was set to play in both melbourne and sydney in their first Australian show in nearly six years. But it seems that this event of a lifetime has been cut short. Tom Yorke, the lead singer of the band, was said to have experienced pain in his throat for some of the final numbers at their last show in the Sydney Entertainment Centre, and, upon conference with a nose ear and throat specialist, was told that if he was to put stress on his vocal chords in the next couple of days he could do them irrepairable damage. Radiohead has then regrettably called off the last leg of their short tour and told fans that ticket refunds will be possible from the place of purchase.
Personally I feel sorry for Tom and the boys as it seems that they are genuinely sorry for the melbourne fans, but I also feel its a bit of a knife in the liver for many of the people who have flown from inter-state to see the band. well it sucks, but in the words of the graffiti on the fence down the street "shit happens".
Why will we be dissapointed? We saw them live in Sydney on their opening night, arguably their best concert of their 2004 tour.
I feel for the fans who saw the band in Melbourne. His voice wasn't up to scratch on the first night in Melbourne and the second didn't even happen. I'm just thankful we flew to Sydney and not Melbourne.
