I have upped the core voltage to 1.85v and the RAM voltage to 2.8v and lowered the multiplier to 10.5 and have managed the following overclock:
FSB: 240mhz RAM: 480mhz (1:1 Ratio) CPU Speed: 2520mhz
I am going to change the RAM timings to 9-3-3-3-1T as I have read that Tras should be the sum of the Cas, RAS to CAS and RAS precharge values. I tried this out and according to SiSoft Sandra, my memory performance went up. Temps so far are well withing acceptable limits...they are still lower than what the stock temps in Darwin were. Cooling isn't an issue, I got a Swiftech MCX-159 active cooler on the northbridge with an aftermarket fan and a Gigabyte 3D Cooler on the CPU, and if anyone has seen my case they know there is more case fans than you can poke a stick at so airflow in and out of the case is fine.
What I want to know is, what are safe levels for the CPU core voltage, because the RAM still has some overhead...it's the CPU holding me back and I'm interested to see just how far I can push it.
Well keep going till it doenst turn on anymore, then you know you have gone too far, and if you burn the CPU dont go that high next time, this will give u a true indication of what you can take it too.
Yeah I know, but my BIOS lets me take the CPU voltage to 2.000v in 0.025v increments and there is no way I'm going to push it that far LOL. I was wondering if anyone who has done a bit more overclocking might know "safe" limits to push the CPU to. I can afford to replace said CPU should it die, but I'd rather it doesn't.....
Edit: Just went gay on me....Multiplier now 10 everything else the same. Final speed 2400mhz
Quote from Burk: why bother overclocking... Because it makes him feel more like a man/1337 H4X0r? It's also fun and interesting, and WHY NOT? The CPU will last for YEARS... he's not gonna have it that long, might as well make it die quicker and get better performance and sell it as if he never overclocked it :)
