Hey Maddawg.
Well, i guess first questions are:
1. - What kind of internet connection do you have?
2. - what games do you own?

Hello :)
Yeah, well first things first... you're gonna need an multiplayer internet (TCP/IP) compatible game. On the boxes of games, it will have requirements. Games that allow for multiplayer internet play will say that a 56k modem or higher is required for internet play (however, faster connection is better). Most of the big games that come out now (and all 1st person shooters I think) can be played (normally in a deathmatch style) over the internet. Half Life series (and mods, Team Fortress, Capture the Flag etc), Doom series, Quake series, Battlefield series.
Once the game is installed though and loaded up, you will have options like 'Single Player' and 'Multiplayer' and 'Options' etc. Going to multiplayer brings up some unfamiliar stuff for you no doubt. But generally you need to update and refresh the server list (servers are big computer that host the games you want to play on :)). There's buttons to do that though. And then you might want to click the 'Ping' button up the top of the server list to sort the servers by latency. Smaller latency = better conection speed and faster game. If you live in Australia, servers like Xtra, GameArena, OptusNet, Internode, iiNet are GREAT to play on (well... except CS Internode...). And of course, Gamers-Underground servers :D
I hope that helps. Welcome to Gamers-Underground
