Just wondering how many of us remain? Back then when OD got us in to the Octa4 building (way back when) for a LAN supported by an impressive internet backbone.
When the fastest PC there was running on a P3 766, and the GeForce2 was the choice of graphic cards. When nobody had more then 512megs of memory, and HD's didn't exceed 40gb's.

Just reliving old memories here. ^_^

Post 3

Remember the time we siliconed a fan to your heatsink for the CPU overheating issue?
I think back then I was running a GeForce2 with a Pii450 running at 504mhz and either 256 or 128megs of memory. ^O^

Also Chuthlu blowning his IDE controllers loosing most of his HDD's. and the one thing i remember the most, is waking up to the sound of a M60 thru eaters sounds system.

Post 10

I can't remember, I may have gone to the lan.

Post 11

I think we were on CS 5 beta then.

I've still got that! The Full tower case :) And it was 512 ram :)

No chance of finding any photos of that from me though unfortunately.

Should have one again some day ;)

Post 15

I think we should organise a rememberence lan... One by invite only for the people who attended the O4 Lan and DGA1.

Post 16

Oh, and we should play beta versions of CS, including the cars. ^_~

Post 22

I wasnt even born back then
:P

Post 23

I remember connecting to a down south q2CTF server. Pings were about 100 through the 2MB line (there was alot of leeching that night) which was still better than the 250-300 ping I would get on dial-up. (good ol dial-up days)

Post 24

Yeah, thats the other thing that has to be remembered - this is all pre-ADSL in Darwin :)

Post 25

More like Pre-ADSL N.T.

Am I right?

:p

Post 26

geez yeah i remember the days.. i had a pentium 200 MMX with 64megs of ram and a 14" monitor that had red missing. man cs was brilliant on lan for the first time, going from 350ping to 30 ping on 7fps weeee :D i remember shannow in q2dm1 deathmatch with the cartman skin, he absolutley slaughtered me.. something like 90 kills him 5 me.... :(

Post 27

was that when we installed the powers of the 4mb voodoo2 card and witnessed the true greatness of Quake 2!?

i miss quake 2.. that was crazy.

Post 28

Yeah I got seated next to ruin at that one, I had a PIII 500 with some laughably small amount of ram and 16gig I think of disk space.

Post 29

It was actually a 4MB Voodoo 1 overclocked to give us almost DOUBLE the frame rate in quake2.. pitty it was only from 7 to about 14fps :p

Post 30

It wasn't the Blair Witch Project movie either, it was MorTaR getting Scary Movie off good old mIRC. I remember it very well, lots of fun to be had. Overdrive was getting up to his p90 whoring as usual, but got put down pretty quickly :P hehehe lots of fun.

Post 31

oh, I thought it was Blair... ohwell You are right, mortar did the handy work, I remember him waiting for the second part to download ... :D

When you think about it, it was a great LAN, in it's time :D

Post 32

It was a great LAN full stop. I say it a lot, but modern LANs aren't as much 'fun' as the old ones. Evo1 wasn't as much fun, but Evo2 was awesome, very social feel to it. Possibly the best LAN in Darwin... Since then it's never felt the same.

B&B's LANs almost brought it back, then there were the problems there. ~_~

It's great seeing the old mob at LANs, you can muck about, have a laugh.

Post 41

Didn't go to the first Lan but loved going to the Octa4 office in uniform with sponge and asking for Mr. Dan.

The office girl goes to find the boss to find OD whilst spongy and I eat all the lollies at the front office.

OD appears worried then see's us and tells boss all is ok as "I have info for the police."

HEHEHEH

They were the times.

Post 42

Lataf, Dont forget the time you two visited me at my work :), seems you guys really do enjoy your work, and the extra activites.

Post 43

He he... I remember some of those visits. ^_^'

Post 44

Only checking for illegal downloads/copies.

Yet never found any.

You ppl were too damn honest.

Made me go and look at speeders to make a living.

Post 45

PREPARE TO BE TERMINATED

Post 46

Wassup monkey!!

What I did like about the old Octa4 lan was that they gave out free shirts. I've still got my Octa4play T-shirt in my cupboard somewhere, they were kool shirts :D

Post 47

I think I've still got a Octa4 play stubbie cooler.

Kind of funny when some noob set his IP to the same as the Octa4 gateway router. I don't think the Octa4 techo was too impressed.

Post 48

How long ago was that now? i remember Korny and Mortar going on about it for weeks. Rec was going on about it for months.

Post 49

A log time ago... Was before I worked at Octa4. I'd say about 4 or 5 years ago.
