I was so close to getting the KVHR model (which boasts around 1400 horizontal lines as opposed to 900 - better for HDTV), but couldn't warrant another $600.
Besides, when HDTV is being broadcasted at around 1900 lines, I figured in a couple years time I'll trade-up and get something that can actually reproduce the incoming signal of 1900 in all its glory, instead of spending the extra to buy something that still doesn't quite do it.
Oh, oh, and I also got Sony's HDTV set-top box ($450 off Ebay, as opposed to $700 in store), and a Pioneer DVD capable of playing SACD audio and DVD audio for less than $200 (once again off Ebay).
Partner, not plural! And no, the condition of this new set is that reality tv is forbidden. Anyone cought watching BB on it, or any of that other trash, will have to buy me a new one, and have the other one burnt.
It's not really all that hard... you simply don't do it. What I discovered was that there's a concious decisions and physical action required to have one... and you control those decisions and actions. Extraudinary, eh? ;)
We've got the 86cm WS Sony and the Sony HD box. Bought it all just as the HD box was on the market but we only paid ~$500 for the STB ($4500 for the TV). Very much goodness especially now that Channel 9 Darwin is fully HD with DD sound. :D
You paid $4500 for the TV? You realise it has a Sony RRP of $3999, and is around $3499 in most retail outlets? I'd be investigating the price you were charged mate - that absolutely dreadful... unless of course you bought it yonks ago when it cost a mint?
Quote from rec: unless of course you bought it yonks ago when it cost a mint? That would be the exact reason right there. Price included the Sony TV stand as well which of course they rip you off for. But given that its a 120kg TV its nice to have the proper stand so that it doesnt end up falling on its face on the floor.
if i was planning on buying a tv / home theatre setup i would have looked at a projector for sure.. but i went in to buy a microwave and they were having a sale...
