Well i live in alawa, so i don't see why i dont go to the casuriana exchange. I guess i don't know where the echange is i just know i'm close to cas square.

Anyway can anyone tell me when the Nightcliff (metro) exchange may get adsl2 by. Because according to internode (but my actual isp is Ozemaill/iinet):
Broadband Enabled Area: YES || Exchange Name: SA: Nightcliff (Metro) ||
Agile ADSL2+ DSLAM Status: Not Available

Don't forget that ADSL2 and ADSL2+ are totally different. ADSL2 is an extension of ADSL, whereas ADSL2+ is the next generation, if you like.

As far as ADSL2 goes (what iinet currently provide to Darwin, and soon Casuarina exchanges), they have no plans at this stage to enable any more exchanges. Besides, they better do Palmerston exchange first if they do ;-)

As for ADSL2+, Telstra are slowly installing the hardware around the place, but when third party providers are allowed to start using them, and hence offering plans to us, is up to whenever Telstra "sell" the product to them for use.

No dates have been set (as far as I know - Ph3n, care to shed any light if you know anything?)

Thank you for that information.
Could adsl2 be offered in an area but only to a cetain isp. like iinet, cause i think it said i had adsl2 access if i choose to move my plan up.

What you'll find with iinet (as I am with them) is that they will "upgrade" you to the ADSL2 plans and offer ADSL2 speeds where available (which is Darwin and Casuarina exchanges only).

The only benefit of being on an ADSL2 plan is the increased monthly quota.

can you get cable internet up here in darwin? if so can you tell me what companies will sell it? or is it best to wait for adsl2+

oh and did anyone hear about the new internet they are probably going to use that actully runs trhough the power lines makeing an internet connection of about 100Mb/s

Post 7

No cable internet in Darwin - not now or ever.

The power-line internet is still on trial in Tasmania. It will be a long time before that is presented as a viable option.

Is it possable to change your exchange for you home number without changing number?
My old number (according to dad) was hooked up to the cas interchange but now its at nightcliff.

Post 9

its more to do with the copper line direct from ure house to an exchange more than the number itself

Post 10

Yeah my lines are really bad.. i'll still try push to get our connection moved to cas so i can get ADSL2.

i knew telstra might not offer there hardware whole sale

no big isp like internode that have there own hardware in exchanges are gonna pay to use telstra's hardware in the long run its easier for them to install there own hardware and not be stuffed around by telstra
