OK this is shitting me to no f**king end. Our plan got upgraded from 512 DSL to 1.5. It officially goes through on the 01/12 but it went through today.

However since it went through, my net has slowed down considerably. Pinging both optusnet and internode...and pretty much ANY server on the net and I have a packet loss...normally 25% loss/ping however sometimes I get 100% loss. Optus have said they are getting a 20% loss pinging me.

After 3 hours on the phone to optus, their tech department more or less came to the conclusion I'm imagining things. However some pages just will not load...including GU, google, ninemsn, optus' page itself and internodes as examples. They do EVENTUALLY load, but only after an arseload of time.

Nothing on our netwoirk has changed at all and last night I had 0 problems. However now I cant evenm check my email as thunderbird wont download it due to time outs.

Also if I download a single file/multiple files I get full speed - sits on 150 - 160k/s NP at all...however try and load ANY webpage and BAM, Im crippled to below dialup. Its not shaped, Im not even at 15% usage for the month.

Modem is a D-Link 302G...same problem on both my computer running Windows XP Pro/Linux and on my mum's PC running Windows 98 SE. Both Firefox and IE have the problem. I have used both the optus supplied DSL modem (Optus proprietry firmware) and my own OEM D-Link 302G (Official D-Link Firmware). Both have the same problem. According to optus I have no connection issues at all as far as their systems are concerned.

The ONLY thing that changed between this problem occuring and before it happened is we got switched to 1500 DSL, however optus are adamant it's on my end.

I was actually just thinking about the MTU then cause I remember reading about it a while back - how do I drop it and what do I drop it to?

Nope - not that :-/

do ping -f -l 1480 <host you cant reach>

decrease 1480 by steps of 10 or whatever until you get a response, what value did you have to use?

Im down to 1350 and I still only get iffy responses. Sometimes they all respond, sometimes none respond, but normaly I get a 25% loss :-/
