Hey guys, it's holidays and I have money. So I'm thinking of upgrading... yet I'm pretty much out of the loop hardware wise, so I need your help.
My current system is:
Proc: Athlon 3200+ 32bit Mobo: GA-7NNXP Pro Ram: 2x 512mb Corsair Video Card: 9500 non-pro
The video card has gotta go. At the moment, I'm looking at a 6600GT or x800 for a replacement; I had decided on the 6600GT, however, the 7NNXP is AGP only. I did some googling and apparently you can get AGP 6600GT's and AGP x800's, so that's not much of a problem...
However, I've been considering a PCIE version too. Yet that'll mean a new motherboard and possibly a new processor too. Is it possible for me to use my current (3200+ 32bit) processor in a PCIE motherboard? If so, I'll use that instead... if so, can anyone recommend a solid one?
i had almost same system as you, spent 300 bux on a 6600gt agp card and everything runs fine.
however this will not last forever and at the time it was the smarter option as 64bit was just way to expensive, and i wanted to wait for dual core before i upgraded.
64bit is now alot cheaper, and by far the best option.
Yeah I might do what Neotheo did... my system is fast enough to run anything I throw at it, and I did some pricing last night... +$880 to get only slightly more performance from a whole new system as I'm getting from my current one... just save my money until the 6600gt is shitbox and the rest is too, then I'll just junk the whole thing and upgrade then...
If you've been a member of OCAU forums for 90 days you can find some nice secondhand AGP cards going around... Usually theres quite a few people selling AGP 6600GT's or 6800GT's to upgrade to pci-e...
Ebay might be able to help you in finding cheap ones because its probably not worth it to buy 6600GT's brand new these days...
