ok so i brought some hardware and started to build my own computer.. put it all together, turned it on and not much happened.. well everything powers up which is good but the motherboard gives out an error. it is;
AWARD POST Code - C1
from the back of the book it says this;
C1 - Detect Memory
- Auto-detection of DRAM size, type and ECC - Auto-detection of L2 Cache (socket 7 or below)
anyone know exactly what this means? did i buy the wrong type of RAM?

I have no idea about the error. However, after a bit of research, I found:
C1 - Memory Size
But I also found, from what I can see that the motherboard supports the memory. Webpage here. Assuming it's PC2-5300? I don't know that much about this sort of thing. It could just be faulty memory to begin with, of course.

You have the right memory mate :) Not really sure on the problem, all I can really suggest is re-seating it making sure it's in properly, try in another machine, etc.
I had a quick look over on the Abit website for a BIOS update, there is compatibilty updates there that might be a solution, but a little hard to do an update without it running. i also found http://compatible.corsairmemory.com/ and it doesn't list the RAM i've got as compatible, but says the 512Mb (exact same everythin else) is compatible which i thought was weird.
i also found a review of the motherboard and it said that it was abit fussy on types of RAM.

yeah i found that too which is why im worried that i got the wrong RAM.
by POST i mean Power On Self Test, so yeah it does "POST" because C1 is a "POST" code.
reading the manual abit more and it says;

also the memory stick doesn't exactly fit perfect, like it fits in but the white grips on the side don't go in to the groove in the memory stick. but it still sits there fine..
sorry really don't know that much about this stuff..
