My preference was to put 10 points in protection to get a bit more armor seeing as using 2h all the time. Extra armor would make up a bit for not using a shield.

Hmmm sounds like the "best way to make a salad" recipie I heard.
Take a whole lettuce and chop into strips, mix with grated cheese and diced tomato and flavour with a low fat dressing.
