Commonwealth Games is a PITA - as if Melbournes roads weren't f**king retarded enough as it is (Hook Turns, Lanes going one direction in the morning, another in the evening) median strips where there shouldn't be any, tram lines....they now have blue lanes for the games you cant drive in either.

I watched about 10 minutes of the opening ceremony.
All I could think was, "I'm paying for this?", and "where are the snipers?" (when the Duke of Edinburgh, Queen, and Howards wife entered stage).

Actually right hook turns make a hell of a lot of sense when you're driving in the city. At the intersections that have them, it means you're out of the way of traffic and trams while waiting to turn right - also it means your turn right is regulated and you're not stressing to turn right before the red.
The lanes changing directions during the day are just the signs of poor infrastructure planning.
Median strips where there shouldn't be any are the remnants of when the roads were enlarged and the trees were too much of a hassle or historic value to be removed.
Games Lanes - ****ing stupid.
I get to drive 4-5 times a week in the CBD these days. :-(

Hook turns do make sense, and I can see the point of them and now I sorta got the hang of it, its not such a big deal unless I get stuck in the wrong lane. However it still doesnt make them any less frustrating when I never even seen one before :p

when i was in melbourne few weeks ago i couldnt believe melbourne city roads bloody tram lights and bloody tram tracks, URG i gave up after half an hour i didnt wanna drive anymore.
