If only it was a PS3 :(.

I want one, mainly for Neon - the music "visualiser"/lightsynth thing that's in it... coded by Jeff Minter of Llamasoft, who made legendary C64 games like Revenge of the Mutant Camels.. (and did Tempest 2000 on Atari Jaguar, etc etc)...
The usual music visualisers (winamp, itunes etc) are coolish, but this one is actually controllable - each of the 4 controllers controls a different aspect of the graphics.
Anyway, 360s are a tad expensive to buy just for a lightsynth.. Neon is coming out for PC soon so I'll wait for that (pc version lets you feed camera input + custom images into the lightsynth!). Wouldn't mind a 360 once some good games are out though.

I wasn't planning on getting one but after seeing Fight Night Round 3 today in Harvey Normans I think I'll preorder one tomorrow :)
Post 5
Was planning on getting one, but with the announcement of the PS3 being released in AU before Christmas, I decided I'll wait for that.
Post 6
Wouldn't mind one, but I'll think I'll wait for the PS3 as well. Then I'll wait for the 360 price to drop and get one too. And a Revolution while I'm at it.

OMG this christmas?
Post 8
Pft. I've already got one, had it for ages.
Anybody willing to part with 800 goolies for one here in Aus, needs a slap. What a bloody rip off. Import one from Japan, 450 bucks, and that's the pro bundle.
That said, the PS3 release has been pushed back AGAIN to a world wide release.
Post 9
I do want another console (the Playstation and N64 just don't cut it anymore - games are fun, but just not like the games of today). But I'll definitely wait to price drops + I see what games come out. I got a Xbox, had Halo and loved it.. it was the only game that was good on it.

Someone should slap you for that :P Most console games these days are short and boring, just tons of eye candy :(
Post 11
I got more enjoyment from Goldeneye and Super Mario Kart (snes) than any other console game to date :)
My house-mate is buying a 360 when it comes out, cant wait :p
Also 'BLACK' for xbox = ****ing awesome.
Post 12
i destroyed goldeneye for me.
had great memories of going to a mates place who had a 64 (i'm still on snes) and getting owned by him as oddjob (??short fat dude) in multiplayer. played it again about 5 months ago and then graphics killed the memory for me

Yeah that's my thought on it. Gonna wait abit for price to drop before I get one.
Post 15
i will probs get one, once it comes down in price. It will look sick on my new 50 inch Pioneer plasama screen :D
Post 16
PS3 wont be out till most likely next year.
And anyone who thinks BLACK is a great game deserves a 360! The poor mans PC!

Sony have said November for PS3.

Yeah, 499 for a core system? Don't buy them. You either buy the real system, or don't buy one at all. It doesn't come with a free game last time I checked.

so where's that $800 from exactly? way to not answer.
Post 21
Prob from the Harvey Norman adds up here, they have one bundle for $849 and another bundle for nearly a grand.
I'll just upgrade the video card and wait for the PS3 at those prices :(
Post 22
Do you think Microsoft is using the same tactic as play station 2 when it was original anounced. That they had a huge store house full of psp2's but limited the stock in shops to keep the prices high.
Post 23
Nah MS actually limited the factory numbers to try and make it a rare item...kinda fking stupid if you ask me. You won't get more hype by releasing less products...actually you might in the 10-14 year old bracket..its been a while since i was there.
Either way by November and the PS3 Sony should have a much stronger range of games to launch with their product.

The N64 was pretty damn good though.

agreed.
i remember when i could hire a snes, only on birthdays was i aloud to do it but, god it was fun when i did, can you still hire consoles from video easy? or they just too expensive to hire out now?
Post 26
No way would I buy the 360... I think I might wait till after christmas if I ever think about it. I dont understand those people who *have to be the first to own the console*
I wouldn't mind the revolution when it comes out. Nintendo wins for game originality. Played one racing game ...played them all.

Pretty sure you still can with NP. Although they may not have older systems like the N64 anymore. That said if it's a SNES or N64 you could BUY one from Cash Converters for the price it would cost you to hire one.
Post 28
"so where's that $800 from exactly? way to not answer."
Well iFűck you too.
I'm sure you've read the story's from the US releases, and I'm sure the same stunts won't happen here, but for those who don't know, large retail outlets cheated people out of extra money by forcing them to buy packages, instead of the console on it's own. That is, instead of paying the 490US for the advanced system only, they'd have to fork out somewhere in the vacinity of 650 and get two games, an extra controller, and a memory card.
It SEEMS like they're on top of it, with special packages available for the last few months with an extra controller, an extra facia, and a game plus some other stuff, I don't remember. (PS. if anybody wants one of these packs, minus the controller, contact me. I needed an extra controller urgently, and bought a pack).
Since you've asked for sources, KMart, and Harvey Norman are the places I've seen these prices, and they weren't openly advertising prices of the unit on its own. In the US, Best Buys and EB were the ones not offering the sale of the unit on its own. I believe there may have been others too.
Would you like references?
Post 29
I will be buying an xbox 360, but not right now i cant see why people pre-order and go wait in a line at midnight that just crazy.
but when i do buy one, ill be buying it from australia - i like my warranty where i can just go into the shop and return it not send it at my own expense to japan...and with the issues its currently having (psu overheating, discs scratching...) i like the warranty
and there is no difference at all between the core console and the premium/bundle except the core doesnt come with a hdd or wireless controller (both of which can be bought later seperately) so if u prefer using a corded controller and dont mind saving ur games onto a memory stick it only $499 retail
Post 30
It also doesn't come with a HDTV capable cable, or the headset, or the free time on XBox Live.
Post 31
If you do buy a console from Japan how are the following things treated?
1. Language selection, I would imagine its Japanese by default? So you need a friend who reads Japanese to select the language change option for you?
2. Power supply? I don't think they are the same as us are they? Is it just a matter of getting a convertor or a AU PSU?
3.Warranty..will MS AU support warranties on the product if purchased in Japan?
Very curious, not flaming at all.
Post 32
1. From memory, when I setup my XBox 360, it asked right at the beginning which language, and was defaulted to English, so not really an issue with it.
2. You'll need to get a power adapter. If you're planning on purchasing more consoles from overseas, then this shouldn't be an issue. Get a powerful one though, my first one blew a fuse, and never worked again afterwards.
3. I don't believe warrenty will be covered outside Japan, but the same thing applies for all foreign consoles.
On the topic though. I've not found heating to be an issue. I have mine in an semi-enclosed area and it's never been overly hot. I dont' believe it was too bad with the Japanese consoles, as the problems were mostly sorted out by then I believe. Scratched disks I don't believe to be an issue either. I've never had a scratched disk in the time I've used mine. Also something I believe to have been resolved, but I personally feel, that it was an issue with the way people set it up. Sit the console flat, and you won't have problems.
Post 33
I'm pretty sure Japan uses the same power as us - just a different plug shape.
Post 34
No, Japan is on the 115V system, we're on the 240V system.
Post 35
There goes that idea then :p
Post 36
Ok so it's released tomorrow... does anyone know if any stores in Darwin are having a midnight opening?

EB are - but u probly wont get one if u didnt per-order - not sure about anywhere else though
Post 38
Well I called just about every store that I could think of and they all said I could still pre-order :D Ended up ordering one close to work so I can pick it up during lunch and stare at the box all day :)
Post 39
Midnight launches are over rated, especially if you have work the next day (or that day rather).
Post 40
Doesn't really matter the time, when Win95 launched I had at least 30 people lined up outside my store waiting for it.
That was at 9am :)
Post 41
oh, go win95. i'ld still line up, just to play red alert as it was ment to be played. not with these fancy whatchyamacallits making it run on XP
Post 42
meh, coco is right all consoles sucked scince snes. goldeneye was just a really good game. ill stick to my pc unless i win lottery :P
Post 43
u know how the revolution is going to let u get access to all the old nintendo games, is it going to help the graphics? like...the ps2 did for ps1 games (i think??). cause that weould be the thing that makes me buy a new console
Post 44
How are they going to do that? Haven't the Nintendo catridges changed along the years? Or are they going to have adaptors ?
It's a great idea to be sure, backwards compatibilty is a nice option.
Although the old games aren't as good as we remember them. :(
Post 45
I reckon they should re-release some old classics, with new graphics and perhaps tweaked gameplay for todays demanding audience.
Songs and movies get this regurgitated treatment and they sell very well.
Post 46
River Raid 2000 with the latest combat sim engine
Pitfall FPS style
I don't know if I could handle another thumb breaker like Killer Instinct tho, im getting to old :P
Post 47
lol I've had my 360 for a couple of days now.
haven't had sore thunbs like this since mario 64.
Post 48
Killer Instinct was so crap. Bring on Pitfall though. :D
Post 49
I think ill wait till after christmas when the 360 design flaws are ironed out (overheating, scratching disk, patch freezing) and the price drops a few hundred.

they are going to ahve a thing like xbox live. you can download all the old games. dont use the cartridges
Post 51

plugged in my usb ipod, no worries, plugged in a few other usb bits like external hard disk etc, no luck. me thinks it needs to be hacked to do that

What is Project gotham racing like?
What are peoples favourite games on the xbox atm. Im interested in knowing, as i plan to get one pretty soon, just need the money. As well decide which package and games to get.
thanks
Post 63
fight night 3 and oblivion. i've heard nothing but good about both.
Post 64
Yes you can use a keyboard on the 360....... but only for entering information where ever it has the "virtual keyboard" option. So no game playing with it and no mouse support.

they'll probly make an adapter like this one (which is for the original xbox)

I really doubt they will, The original XBox, didn't use any kind of compatible interface aside from RJ45, the new one allows USB keyboards, but not for general use.
Post 67
The controllers on the original XBox were just standard USB from memory with a different plug.

correct - i have got 2 usb ports added into my xbox running offa one of the controller ports

By compatible interface, I mean you can't simply plub in a USB device without going to a little trouble.
