Heaven forbid, I'm actually getting into the soccer - amazing what happens when you have a national team to support instead of some ethnic group team. AND they are massive underdogs, so any win is huge - love it :)

Schwarzer came to gather a Japanese cross only to collide with the opposition, as the ball went over his head and into the goal.

He appealed for a foul, none was given.

Gah!!

Post 28

Been a good game however, seem to be creating shots and sort of dominating the game. Ref is a wanker though.

correction: last 8 minutes as told by our mate, les

Post 50

...................

Wow.....

You know what....

I finally "get" soccer.

Post 51

Sloppy game generally, but we had far too much stength and stamina in the end, Japan just about looked like they were going to drop dead :p

Good domination from Austrlia. need to work on their setups a litte more I think though, just looked rather clueless at times kicking the ball all over the place :|

Great game though and damn nice to see Australia come back hard.

Haha OD, soccers an awesome game, a lot of people dislike it because they see it as a girly type game.. :|

Post 52

GOAL
god the coach jumped more then phil gould watching a origin match
what an exciting ending

i wonder if we have worried brazil :)

Post 53

Karma.... Zen....

Post 54

on the mark there OD, that first 80 minutes, i would've taken a union game or something for skill and gameplay, but your team winning a game, in the world cup, is brilliant

im no pro with soccer, but australias game before the goals were terrible, way too many chances from the corner, and from penalty, but that last 10 min, amazing.

Post 55

**** yeah!!!!
draw against either brazil or croatia and we are through if jap loses to both. win against croatia and we are through definitaly. draw against both and we are also through definatly

Post 56

I've always said - they clean up the "dives" taken, the game will do well in Australia.

Post 57

shortly after cahil scored the first goal, he put a late tackle on the japanese player in the box... shoulda been penalty.

but who cares, was an enjoyable last 15mins, thats for sure.

Post 58

This is how I described it to Emma.

It was like being stabbed in the heart for 84 mins - then magically healed over and over again in the last 6mins.

YingYang - feel the pain to get the pleasure....

Sooo frustrating then sooo good.

Two goals in four minutes from Tim Cahill gave Australia an astonishing 3-1 victory in their opening world cup group F match against Japan.

Cahill came off the bench to inspire Australia's first world cup win with two late goals and John Aloisi added a third for an unbelieveable 3-1 win. Earlier a blunder from Aussie keeper Mark Schwarzer who missed a routine cross gave Japan a 26th minute lead that threatened to be enough.

Schwarzer appeared to be fouled, but referee Abd El Fatah Essam waved away his desperate appeals.

Australia had made a rampaging start to the match.

Captain Mark Viduka went perilously close to scoring twice from close range in the opening five minutes, only to be denied by Japanese keeper Kawaguchi Yoshikatsu.

Japan's best opportunity came on the 20 minute mark, Takahada spraying a long range shot just wide of the left hand upright with Schwarzer well beaten.

At the other end Australia were continuing to create the better scoring opportunities.

Harry Kewell, who was a shock inclusion in coach Guus Hiddink's starting side, blasted one just over the crossbar.

Marco Bresciano twice went close but again it was Yoshikatsu standing between the Socceroos and a well deserved equaliser.
[Image: http://news.ninemsn.com.au/img/worldcup/1206_schwarzer_g.jpg]
Searching for inspiration Hiddink turned to his bench bringing on Tim Cahill and Josh Kennedy early in the second spell.

And a foul on Kennedy almost produced an equaliser.

Japanese keeper Yoshikatsu again saving brilliantly from Viduka, after a blistering shot from the edge of the box.

With both teams tiring in the heat, Viduka was leading his side forward.

The Socceroos were finishing the stronger and John Aloisi's arrival with 20 minutes to play signalled Hiddink's intentions.

It was all out attack for the Socceroos.

Three minutes after his arrival a late lunge earnt Aloisi the Socceroos fourth yellow card, a high number for 78 minutes of play, vindicating Japan's coach Zico's comments on the Socceroos style of play the previous day.

Whaat? Australia were playing quite well the entire match. Very offensive, just unlucky not to have got on the score board till so late.

T'was an excellent match. Go Australia!!

Post 62

Japans goalie was awesome. Before we scored the shots at goal was something 15-6. Wouldnt say we were poor. They just defended very well. But WINNERS is us!

Post 63

Yeah Australia played very well... good balance between Defense and Offense...
That bullshit foul went uncalled but we still beat them and rubbed it in...

We woke people 3 levels up in our apartment blocks with our cheering but who wouldn't with a freaking win like that... I'm still on a high from it all and I've got an exam in like 10 hours time :D

Post 64

the amount of dives the japanese team took and the ref bought was incredible

Post 65

JAPAN GOT OWNED IN THE LAST 8 MINUTES!!!!!!
WOOOOOT!!!!!

sorry i well excited!

Post 68

australia played shit leading up to the last 10 or so mins.

they wernt taking shots on goal .. even though they took like 20 they were mostly no where near. where as japan's shots were on target more so.

anyways good on em .. now to see if they can trouble brazil LOL or croatia. double LOL.

watch Japan now snap shit and beat croatia.
