Official Gamers-Underground IRC Channel

I know a Gamers-Underground IRC channel attempt has been made many times before, but I've decided to give it one last crack.

With our games server just weeks away from operation, I believe the users would benefit from a place to come a chat in real time with each other, and with server administrators when assistance is required.

For those of you unaware, IRC stands for "Internet Relay Chat" which provides a internet based medium for real-time text-based chat.

You will find GU on GameSurge in our new channel; #gamers-underground.

Other note-worthy channels on the GameSurge network that you might like to check out are #fifa (the official World Cup 2006 channel), #bf2 (official Battlefield 2 channel), #wow (for all you Warcraft nuts), #pES (Australian e-sports).

To connect to GameSurge...
- Download, install and run Winows IRC client; mIRC (www.mirc.com)
- Once loaded, type "/server -m irc.gamesurge.net:6667"
- You should now be connected to GameSurge, and can enter "/join gamers-underground" to enter GU's channel. Or also try "/join #gamers-underground"

To register a GameSurge account...
- Please visit http://www.gamesurge.net/createaccount/

To authenticate your new account...
- In mIRC, once connected to GameSurge, type "/authserv [auth account name] [auth account password]"

To register you own channel...
- Join #registration on GameSurge or,
- Visit the online registration page once logged into the GameSurge website with your account username and password.

does trillian still support irc?

Post 8

Why use trillian when you can use Google Talk and Google Talk alone? :)

But yes, it does, the last time I used it anyway (I think, heh).

Too many freaking hoops to jump through.

Post 15

you dont have to register for anything
i did it all without registering.
there is no way im gonna register to shit just to chat on a irc channel when there is plenty of others out there that dont require it

Post 16

As Knight suggests, you don't need to register. I simply wont be able to set you up with auto-voice or auto-ops unless you do.

Post 17

Any possibility of creating a web-frontend ?
That way i can IRC while im at work, or something :p

Post 18

Post 19

Once I've finished the new GU design, I'll get Dan to implement a web IRC client on gamers-underground.com.

Post 20

Post 21

We are getting another redesign? whats wrong with the current one?

Post 22

Nothing at all, to be completely honest.

We're getting a new one to mark the launch of our new games server, and simply to offer all of the participants something fresh.

Post 23

Post 39

Knight - You Bastard.

Post 40

Why does't GU run its own IRC from the new server that can then be hosted from irc.gamers-underground.com or the like, then it can be connected up to other free community IRCs like Darwinwireless and the-mesh etc..

Then we can connect to one server and jump in all the channels ;)

-Rip

Post 41

Yo Rip, good idea, 'cept I wouldn't bother with DW there's like one person in these days if you're lucky. What's the Mesh irc?

Post 42

That is something I was going to consider hey... Server's pretty much ready to go now, just have to arrange a time with the guys generously offering us hosting to drive to Sydney and install it in the rack.

Post 43

would be nice to see somthing like that happen, everything driven by the communitys :D,
umm our servers are below and they should be linked... unless somthing goes wrong .. lol
dm1.irc.the-mesh.org
dm2.irc.the-mesh.org
Channel:#themesh
Port: 6667

Cheers
Rip

EDIT:

We currently use hybrid IRC server
