I survived DGA 40. Cant believe it but I did survive. Many Many Thanks must go to all those who helped. Unseen, Xaine, neotheo, Kronk etc etc. I know I will get kicked for forgetting the others who helped but sorry I didnt mean it. If you know someone who helped add their names here coz thanks must go to them as well. Also thanks to Xaine once again for the lift with all my junk.
Looking forward to the next lan. Onwards and Upwards to bigger and better things!!
Come on guys some people did a really excellent job of helping - for real and in my sleep deprived post lan state of mind I just cant remember them all
wow there seem to be a few new faces. I am happy to hear DGA was a hit and seeing pics from the bridge club bring back so many ... good memories from that place :) so whens the next one I can attend :D
Quote from Hitokiri Kensuke;280934: The LAN was okay, still suffers from some of the same problems all DGA's suffer from though. Good to see it get back to roots though.
Would like to see the Admins mingle a bit more though, not just sit in a table out the front, segregated from the rest.
Point taken about the Admins. I did walk around a few times, but didn't actually say hello or anything. I don't feel that we were segregated though - being out the front was simply a focal point for people to come to us if they had problems or needed something (which happened on a few occasions.)
Could you be more specific about the problems you saw? That would be helpful - no power or network issues. Those tables set up in the corner with the TV is planned to become a regular thing for people to bring consoles, and also as just a separate chill-out area.
Don't worry, the problems were relatively minor. ^_^ By all means, it has been the most successful lan I've been to in a while (as far as major lans goes) and I prefer the smaller lans with 40 or 50 people.
My feelings about the admin table are that just makes people feel awkward about approaching. Usually it's pretty obvious who the admins are, but keeping the table mixed in with the crowd would be nicer... For example, with DGA40, having all the tables in the same direction (including admins table) would have been nice... Similar to how it was in the past. The real problem is that DGA doesn't really promote itself on a personal level at the lans any more... It's for the most part started, and allowed to run. You need personel officers, people who actively go out and talk to people, see how people are going. It doesn't take a whole lot of time, and it tightens the community a little more.
i wasnt able to stay there overnight, left a 9pm for a send off for a mate going back to adfa. however it was great fun. i need to remeber to have all the games installed BEFORE people start playing them, so i dont get them ready by the time everyone moved on. although armagetron was heaps of fun. graphics smaphics :P
I'd agree with the personal touch. That's one of the things that made the LANs so much fun back in the day (when I went??) The fact I could rock up and have a conversation with a number of people.
I think what made DGA flop in a big way is that the admins started getting to full of themselves and thinking they were better then a lot of the fresh new gamers because "they had been around forever" Lines started being drawn and DGA lost that personal touch.
I know you guys have been working towards erasing that line but it is going to take time!
All i want to see is a little more structure in the games that we play. ie a projector with the game list like number 36 is good way to do it. I believe there were only at maxium 6 people in the CSS server and 8 in the BF2 server (i understand it is a hard game for some people to run).
We really need a net link of some sort to get thoes people who cant update steam cause of no net at home.... there was 4 people that i knew that didnt have the updates.
The Icq server didnt go to well, i dont know weather it was advitised at the start of the lan or not but only me rip and elmato were in there. There was more activity in someone teamspeak server they had going. I think Dga sould have one set up and running all the time and everyone shlould be in it even if they dont have a mic ... they can still hear the other people.
We are moving towards some new things .. At the moment the big thing people will see at the next DGA is a "Console Corner" Being it PS2 Xbox whatever. A Television will be provided but the consoles will be BYO.
The Internet link is actually being discussed by the bridge club as we speak. As they are a club these things need to be voted upon at there committee meetings. So we wait and see.
Also some other things that we will be discussing at our next meeting in a few weeks. The lans we are hoping to hold once every 6 weeks .. So it will be mid month then the end of the month.
Thanks to the Committie and Admins for thier tireless work in preparing, organising and making the Venue happen.
Also Big thanks to Rip and Elmato for the update and maintenance work on getting the DGA Servers up to speed for the mucho funno DGA back at the Bridge Club.

/joy.
finally I can pimp my "dream machine"...which is kinda funny as I have been barely sleeping over the past week due to reading reviews up late on teh webzorz.
May I be correct in assuming that it will be on the 11th and the 12th of November?
when the venue is locked in and sorted then i am sure unseen or whoever it is booking venue this time will get it put up and announced but we did say we were aiming at a lan every 6 weeks or so so work it out

Used to be Eater of Souls at the old DGA's. Where's he at?
