Hiya to all you DGA members i am new so please welcome me with open arms :D

so after playing fear for a while i noticed that my ping was jumping again from 53 - 500 -.-" because one of my bros was using azerus to download stuff and i cant relli do anything about it as he is older

So i was just wonderin... is there a way i can disconnect him from the network /Router (speedtouch 510 4 ports) or stop azerus from taking all my bandwidth by blocking it some how or is there specific software which does the job?

thanks

pull his network cord out

Post 3

Hell No! LOL

the router is in his room i wont make it out alive:o

Post 4

tell him to limit his upload speed to something reasonable - about 5-10k/sec if you're on adsl. 1 k/sec if you're on dialup.

Post 5

That would work he wouldnt agree thou but i am gonna go in his room when he isnt there and do it any way :D

and my internet connection is 1.5/256
can i like edit or hack the router somehow and tell it to like block a specific ethernet/lan port?

Other than that can any one think of a better option?

limiting the upload speed won't harm his download, and it will greatly decrease network latency. it's the right thing to do.

Post 7

well i guess i got to set it to 0 then mauhahaha
i might have to ask my school network manager person thingy lol
nehu thank for your help much appreciated

Usually 0 (depending on the torrent software) means unlimited upload/download.

Also a lot of torrent software include a limiter to the download if the upload is below a certain amount.

Download utorrent (google that it's more like micro-torrent). That has a built-in scheduler and isn't java based like azureus is.

been there done that and failed :D

i got to read more about utorrent stil trying to poke my head round the port forwarding and stuff through google and it just keeps going on to other things and then keep going and going and going lol so i just gave up

thanks for the info about the downloading/uploading its gonna help lol

well off to bed

I dunno if your modem will let you, I doubt it but you could prioritize the traffic for the ports he uses for Azureus. Usually under something called QoS (Quality of Service) depending on the equipment you have you can pretty much limit the bandwidth he'd use.

Limiting the upload isn't going to do a whole lot for your latency, even if he is hitting decent download speeds your going to be lagging like hell anyway.

I'd just try talk to him first and see if he can download over night (like most people do ;P) Edit: Unless your playing till silly hours int he morning? :P

my router lets me limit the bandwidth everyone uses on my network.

If you limit the upload to less then 10k on a lot of P2P you will find that the download is limited to 30k or something.

Oh and azereus is just dodgy...

limiting the upload is going to do more to lower latency than limiting the download. if the upload bandwidth is maxed, your latency is crippled due to an inability to send ack's quick enough, which leads to packet loss, which leads to retransmits, which leads to incredible jerkiness and spikey lag.
