In order for DGA to effectively organise this event we need some info from you. This will determine whether we hold EVO as usual in January or later in the year. If we dont hold it in January, there will be a normal 3 day lan over the Australia Day weekend.
I would of course hope that EVO will proceed.
What I need from you and this also goes for those persons interstate also All I need for you to do is for you to register on this page if you are intending to attend the lan in January. I need your name and state only.
Please dont post numerous threads and divert off the track because I will delete them and this will annoy me. Basic details is what we need.
Get us a venue at a realistic price and evo will be organised If anyone knows of a venue that we can afford that has 3 phase power and the required facilities then please share the information with us Next lan or evo will be held on the australia day weekend pending a venue of course what with christmas coming up and holidays and such australia day long weekend seems the next practical date

Close - Nt Umm not sure if sone one has already suggested this...but the old Palmo library building...Big enough, and would have phase 3 power + facilities.
Thanks for the help people but what we really need is someone to come and say is X building costs X may or may not be available australia day weekend this would actually be a huge help but i like the way you are thinking remember we need 3 phase power enough space airconditioning required facilities - showers if poss and toilets possibly kitchen

someone isnt gonna run up to you with balloons and steamers saying this to you you have to do research, sit down and brainstorm venues then ring and ask
nothing is gonna happen if u just sit back and say give us a venue to use

all i am looking for is someone with a brilliant idea and the ability to also ask for a price i am asking my contacts too sometimes its not what u know its who u know
2 grand ++ easy think we will have to look at a smaller evo or lan for australia day weekend and any grants/donations/gifts that we can lay our hands on
you have to remember, alot of people that go to evo dont come on these forums. What would be wrong with looking at numbers atleast in the order of 3/4 of last year. Last year was what... 200? There is also the DHS Tank. What other places have EVO's been held before at? Those would be the place to start
Quote from Unseen;287564: They are too big. And not worth going to.
I am not picking on one person in particular you just happen to be the one that i got completely fed up on. I would like to see what venues have been looked into, what previous venues we have been to and why they are not viable (ie Bridge Club). $$ figures are always a good thing to throw in, but if aren't known say so, otherwise it looks like your concealing something.
And sujestion wise what happened to the Youth Grant that i heard that we got some time ago because the event was on school holidays?

Evo was lucky to make numbers of 120 last year IIRC

OK here it is in Black and White.
We have looked at the following
Greek School - Booked Foskey - Free but to big and we cant afford it. Tank - Free but to big and cant afford it. Uni - Not allowed there anymore due to the committee they have. Bridge Club - No longer allowed due to there committee voting that since 2 jars of coffee were stolen and the place wasnt cleaned to there satisfaction we are no longer allowed there.
By all means find a venue. But we have sat down, that being myself sponge xaine and discussed the immediate future of DGA and we wont be doing anything till next year. Sorry if this doesnt sit right.
The Youth Grant. Due to the last committee that was looking after DGA the members list hasnt been keep up to a satisfactory level for us to apply for this. This is partialy why membership was reduced to $5. To bring our numbers of JUNIOR MEMBERS up to a level where we can apply for the grant.
And yes WE are conceling stuff. Stuff you dont need to know. If you want to know GET ON THE COMMITTEE .. oh wait DGA at the current point is run by oh wait 4 people. with a 2 extra helpers. So damn, I guess your time could be better spent.
Last paragraph could have been left out but oh well. So to sum up.
No DGA's till late Jan, if EVO goes ahead. Unlikely but you never know. If no EVO maybe, MAYBE a lan early Feb. Again depends on whats going on around that time.
Anything else throw it here, but expect a pretty blunt answer like the one above, if you are going to be so silly about it.
EDIT - Oh Dollar figures .. $2500 - $3000 for a EVO.
Sad situation but true Remember DGA Committee is a voluntary thing where we give up our time and efforts to enable DGA to run lan parties Sometimes we just need more helpers And congratulations and thanks to those on the committee and those who already help
Quote from swamp rat;287581: If the tank and foskey's is free and we just have to fork over for electrictiy and cooling, why cant it be afforded?
Why cant we afford it ..
Lets see .. At current DGA's bank account sits at around $600 give or take "0 here or there.
So break it down .. $3000 to run DGA EVO .. which includes, Venue, Food, Tables, Transport costs.
Break it down. $20 Entry .. 100 people show up. thats $2k .. Probably using the $600 that DGA has we could do it. But where does that put us when you guys want a LAN at the end of Feb early march?? No where that would be the last lan DGA EVER does as there will be no money left.
DGA works like this .. We pay for a Venue, then from that LAN we cover our cost and try to gain a little more .. little more being if lucky "00 .. From that it goes into the account and the lans during the year lead us up to EVO. And by then we HOPE we have enough.
Due to a poorly run committee and bad attitudes of those before DGA fell behind too much and as such, we are now trying to pick up the pieces.
Paper work for the members wasnt keept to a level where we can apply for the youth grant, nor was anything documented for us to just pick up and the ball and keep running.
So there you guys have it you know everything about DGA that I do.
How many people can be fitted into the Greek School?
I am quite happy to keep my membership and to pay around $20 - $35 per lan just to get into the door, if some ceartain goals are met.
What i would like to see:
A Door prize of some sort. ie A HDD or some ram of small value
One or more competitions. I would be quite happy to organise some if i knew that i would be there %100 on the weekend, as the last few ones i have had trouble with other events. I am currently working on getting a properly configed CSS server with Hlstats up and running. I am around %40 the way through the process.
A net connection is a must if CSS is going to be like it is.
This one is a Must for me Some type of Timetable of what games are going to be played and when. So that most people in play the same game aat the same time. The most fun i had was around DGA 34 when Eater was up there almost enforcing the fact that everyone was to play SWAT 4 NOW.
The previous comittee burnt a lot of sponsors, it hard to get sponsorship for these things when everyone buys down south and the commitee members are openly bagging the companies that are supporting them - See node.
Lothar, the greek school is booked so thats not an option for Evo, plus the DGA comittee are sick of dealing with them due to the double bookings etc. All the door prizes etc used to be possible due to sponsors and greater attendance, but as Unseen said the numbers aren't there anymore.
sounds to me like you are "000 from getting it off the ground, with the plethora of IT / computer businesses in Darwin and add to that online stores, i would think that you could find one.
thats cool, just thought i would offer it up as a suggestion, its worked for me in the past just make time to contact local businesses, starting with new ones still trying to establish their names seemed to work.
sorry but i am not interested enough in your cause to become part of the comittee, however if there was no information being withheld i might mention it to some of the busines's that i deal with

That is what i was trying to get at.... If the business can see where exactly where their money is going they will be more likely to support the gaming community.
My last hardware buys were from the computer shop in nightcliff shops. They were soket A mobo and processor, and a SATA pci card. And before that i got 2x 120 gb from Leading edge.
That's only one person. My whole $8000 PC was bought from Infinity Leading Edge but one persons purchasing isn't going to make a big difference. The majority would probably still buy online. I'm guilty of it on tighter months.
Everyone is mate, I buy my stuff online too. Stay tuned if they let me back in i'll rejoin DGA and drag a few old skoolers back with me and see what we can change.
I just don't believe hardware shops are the way to go nowadays which is what people seem to be suggesting.
Lothar - I commend you mate, if every gamer was like you local business's would be booming.
