I have just realised that the Nos and the Dga lans overlap next month for around 11 hours.

I am puting forward a sujestion that we set up a wireless link between the two lans and have a few games together.

So i am asking weather you would
a. you think it is a good idea
b. you would use the link to have fun

Post 2

Yeah mate sounds good. Would need to do a test of somesort and work out what hardware but for sure.

Email me - unseen at internode.on.net with what hardware you guys have and I will see what we can dig up.

Post 3

the 2 lans are very close too

Post 4

that would be awesome

Post 5

a wireless link provided by darwinwireless?

Post 6

That group in my believing has stoped been much of a comunity group.... but it is The Mesh that will be organising it if there is a go ahead

Post 7

oh god. the mesh. i need to be drunk before i hear the argument of advantage of the mesh system over teh darwin wireless system again

Post 8

how about get what ya given and see what happends?

note: will there be a message service set up, that we can all talk to each other thru?

Post 9

hopefully there will be an irc channel setup.

Post 10

Beleive it or not you can use DLOS links even in a mesh network :p in the same way I used to have when I was in Darwinwireless.

IRC is pretty simple to setup and get running on the DGA linux servers, and one was running at the last lan, it just wasn't really advertised around the room.

I think we have to just wait and see what NOS says and then see if we have line of sight from DGA to NOS.

Cheers
Rip

We had 14 last time

Post 22

is DGA looking at buying or borrowing gear? buying gear is fairly cheap and if it doesn't get used for outside wireless to another node, it can always be used to house their own indoor wireless network for gaming if people arn't planning on leeching over it...

Post 23

we have heaps of wireless gear between us .. I just need to know what they have .. until then we cant go forward with this idea.

Post 24

ive got some gear that im happy to let dga use
directional antenna, pigtail, coax

Post 25

Kronk, RIP and NEO work wonders when you need a wireless setup, especially when you need to leech off of Neo's adsl connection :)

Post 26

^_^ is all i have to say

Thats okay. To get into DGA not only do you need to be registered but be acceptable to a full cavity search and drug screening and thats only to get into the car park...:)

Oh and if you need a big mast I have an 18 metre one I can lend. Plus some other wireless goodies, ie Omni etc

Sorry but lol.

I hope this connection can be done, I haven't found any other lanning groups around australia that have done this yet.

Post 36

Is someone putting their hands up to actually organise this?
Unseen has said he will not be at the lan

Post 37

Yer ill be organising on the General side of things. I havent gotten in contact with Sealcom from the church yet. (this is what i am waiting for)

Post 38

so Lothar you are orgaising things on the DGA side of things?
I am happy with this as long as you keep me and the rest of the staff informed as to what is happening so we can let everyone know etc

Post 39

not really ill probally be on the NOS side of things more so than at DGA but i can be the face of the whole thing if no one else steps up to the job

Post 42

We are looking at the "viability" at the moment. Keep u posted :)

Post 43

As it stands Sealcom from NOS is outa darwin at the moment. I rode by the venue today and the Mast that was there some time ago is still there and standing tall. This is what we are probally using on the NOS side of things.

I am liking ya Trikeses Neotheo man, ill have a talk wit ya in TS man.

Looks like we should have a survey not this weekend but the next one for feasabilty. Could someone pm me the phone number of someone at the bridge club with some autharity to get something rolling.

Should be all good and sweet.

See ya there...... hopefully not Diva *shrudder at the sound of the cavity check,

Post 44

ah lothar the cavity checks are all up to the like of Sponge and his mates

Post 45

Just a quick update.

Hoping to get down to the NOS site tommorow to do some RF Wireless site survey work.

We'll see what "miracles" can be performed but at this stage it would appear that we won't have all the required "pieces" of the puzzle in place prior to the upcoming DGA -> NOS lan.

Worst case we'll be scoped out in preperation for the next one !

Best we "may" and I emphasize "may" have a testing "inter-LAN" link up :)

Keep u posted once we get more details.
