I have run into compatibility probs with a usb one and i am told that this sould solve my problems. If someone has one that i can buy or borrow to get me out of trouble that would be good.

Cheers Matt

i have a usb to serial adapter.

alot of the ones you buy around town have issues working with some devices, but i have 2 imported dicksmiths one from newzealand "brand new" that might work well with your device

i order them as i sell them to council's around qld for there water monitoring systems. we can test it with the serial device if you'd like before you buy :).

works well with my car cable aswell :) i can read rpm's on my car fuel use, change the rpm my gear changes at :)

Try the manufacture of the device you are using it with they often list compatable usb adapters. We have had the same issue at work with a roland digital multicore and they recommended a specific brand that work fine with that unit. I can not remember what it is otherwise I would tell you.

If you only need a USB 2.0 interface, a "0 Card would do. Hope you get a free PCI slot.

RS-232 is rather old don't you think? If you're building a serial project, say for academic's sake, RS-485 is better... but USB 2.0 is best <-- Lots of cheap kits around.
