Heya all,

I have decided to look into purchasing a DVD Recorder for my TV but having no knowledge of them. Could someone point me to some good brands/models that I can look at. I am not going to spend a great deal so just recording onto DVD's is just fine with me so it dosen't need to have a HD. I do want it to play as many formats as possible inc avi, mp4, divx if possible. I also want5 it able to record from my VCR so I can put all my VHS movies onto DVD.

We looked at alot of them for the recording of interviews. The sony ones were by far the best in my opinion, but then price wasn't an issue.

bear in mind that you cannot copy any vhs copy protected movies (this is pretty much all commercial vhs movies from the past 10 years or so) as most recorders i have used do not let you, they detect the macrovision bs

mepm is there any way to bypass this like a crack for the DVD recorder? If not how would I go about copying the VHS to dvd or is it just tough luck?

You can get a little box thingy from jaycar either AR-1822 "29.95 or
AR-1820 $69.95. They are called video enhancers & stabilisers. They strip out copy protection and any "piggyback" signals. Aswell as removing protection this should result in a better quality picture recorded to your DVD's. Otherwise going from the RF connector out of your VCR to the RF connector in of your DVD recorder (if it has one) might work, but will give you crappy picture.

I think one had s-video in/outs and the cheaper was RCA's, but no not from what i could see from the catalogue there wasnt any difference. Youll have to check out the box in store.
