Hah.
So sick of all the 'vote for jess' shit going around.
Sif vote for someone caus they're from your home-town. How about vote for someone based on their merits in the competition they're in.
Post 10
how about vote for an Australian in Australian Idol rather then some irish guy who doesnt even have citizenship. Yea I think Damian was awesome but he should be in Irish Idol. There should be rules about that :/
I dont vote though :D
As for the hometown.. I wouldnt buy either of their records so I guess I dont care :P

We all win now that the glorified karaoke is over!!!
Post 13
Good thing that Jess didn't win, now she won't be bogged down like past winners.

Nope, now AMERICAN Idol will be on.
So now not only will it pollute our airwaves, but it won't even be relevant!

I read somewhere that the winner's contract is more-than-usually restrictive.
Post 16
I thought they all signed contracts which said they couldnt take another contract except by sony for a year.
Post 17
Well you have to think about it. Considering that Jess actualy did sign a contract with another publishing company before she actualy entered into Australian idol. I truly think that the numbers were modified to prevent her from winning considering if she did win and sony signed her up, with a current ongoing contract she had with another company sony would of had to fight it in the courts.
Overall I do think Jess actualy did cheat in the event because of having previous knowledge in the industry and training by proffessionals. I don't neccearly how you can say its a fair system when you have people having leg up situations before you even begin.
Post 18
They all sign contracts before they are allowed into the final 30-50 whatever. Sony and Channel 10 basically own them for a year, they must do apearances as told sing what they are told and get very little money for the trouble. Of course this all changes after the contract ends and they go on to have hugely successful recording carrers. Oh wait that has never happened.

Have you watched the show? You need a lot more then just a good voice to get anywhere Every single contestant had had voice training.
Damian was in a band touring the US, I kinda think thats a but more experiance :/

Nah who cares, Mutto has his own band, Damien has been singing for 10 years, Chris Murphy has his own band, one of the chicks had opera training.
I don't think it matters.
Post 21
Still it would have been nice for aussies to have an australian win australian idol
perhaps australican citizenship by birth or other was one condition they left out
such a pity coz the aussies are always the best
Post 22
yeah citizenship would of been enough
i cant believe they let him on the show without it

Anyone who can sing a damn has had training and lots of practice, practice, practice. That's the honest truth. Good singing does not happen by accident. The voice is an instrument.
Post 24
From what I was told from last year when someone I know got to the final 16 the contract IIRC(convo was a while ago) it is something like 3 records or a million dollars in sales, with the option to buy out.

Sony dumped her ass. They HAD to give her a contract as per winning aus idol.
And I saw on ACA or the other sensationalist news show that our aus idol 'sales' figures are fudged. Casey went triple platinum before even one album was sold. Apparently they get their figures from albums produced or going into stores or some such thing. Shannon and Guy same thing. Who would pay to listen to this kind of crap anyway!
Post 36
the ARIA charts are all rigged. Basically your "top 10" is based on records sold to the music shop companies on a wholesale level, not on a storefront level.
Hence why you see all of those rappers go straight to the top.
Post 37
at the end of the day, regardless of whether those figures are dodgey, if it wasn't making Sony money, they wouldn't be plugging their hard-earned into funding the show and its contestants.
they must have catered to some kind of Australian market, otherwise it wouldn't be in the whatever-it-is-now season.

Sony don't have to plug any of their cash into the show. How many hundreds of thousands of votes do they get in per week? At 55c each thats how much? Craploads. The show pays for itself easy. All Sony have to do is take a guaranteed short term money spinner and stamp out some records.
All these reality shows certainly do have a market but thats not why they are produced. They are produced because the're easy, fast and most importantly cheap, hell all the ones we get to vote on probably make money aside from ad revenue. They all suck all of them without exception. Just nowdays people will watch whatever is on the 'box'. If we want to get some decent TV back we need to stop dumbly sitting in front of it swallowing whatever they feed us.

LOL
Didn't you call me a few weeks ago Evil asking who got booted cause your channel was on the blink....oh thats right it's for your other half.
Busted !! :)

Shhh Shh dont out me
No really it was for her
Post 41
gold platinum records have been based on records produced for a long time. It is meaningless these days as no serious record company releases an album unless they can afford to produce enough copies for triple platinum.

That's kinda my point. Sony aren't going to show continued support of the show and its contestants if it wasn't making them a fortune. Let alone continue to offer that service, series after series. Sure, you could argue those sales figures are dodgey... but you won't find many companies willing to fork their hard earned unless they're making a hefty profit.
Quote from Evil @ngel;287487:

Of course that's why they're produced. They target a market, funded by advertising to cater to that market.
More importantly, the show itself also uses the information it gathers from its devout (the SMS hungry voters) to ascertain things like, geographical locations, time zones, potential age groups, when those people are watching the program etc. Stickyness to their show and/or brand.
This information is then pumped through the marketing machine to work out the best shows to plug in these timeslots (if not also used as a guide to recommend to the potential paying advertising customers as to when to show their adverts). SMS polling is just icing on the cake, and my guess would be quite marginal in terms of profit compared with prime-time-slot advert contracts.
What it does provide them with, is more data to guestimate what shows to show when, to who, to maximise the success of advertisers - and thus their continued business.
Anyway, sorry, bit off topic :p

its not like the show doesnt make more then enough money based on its ratings and advertising alone
