make sure you splash some moisture on your lens for those truly authentic spheroid ghosts (they must've been around a long time, I reckon humans havent been spheres for at least 2 million years)

Most of those could easily be explained through shitty photography. Low shutter speed/cross development = blurry 'ghost' figures, and as others have said, water and crap on the lens make the 'orb' things. Since when did ghosts appear as 'orbs'? O_o Most of the photos are too blurry to make out any definite figures anyway. Also, why are the photos that were claimed to have been taken in the 1990's in poor quality black and white film? For Vermillion, I have been to Port Arthur and didn't see anything out of the ordinary there.

Not always. It is processing the actual photo that makes the difference to it being over exposed etc. How do you think they do time photos of water etc? When you do a photo of water it looks like mist.

actually overexposure occurs on the film/ccd. So if you want to do massive time exposures you need to reduce your aperture to minimum and use a neutral density filter to minimise the amount of light getting in.

Mechanics would be the same, regardless of whether it's ccd/film/plate. The question would be the motive of someone setting up such a shot.
