If you have one, are you willing to seperate with it? or at least the DVD drive from it?

Post 2

warning do not put coke in your xbox 360 dvd rom drive.

Post 3

mine broke, but this little thing called warranty took care of it.

Post 4

Ah. fair enough, actually just realised all XBox's here will still be under warrenty. ^_^'

Post 5

Actually, not all. Anyone who has firmware modded their console or replaced the casing doesn't. ;)

Which is most of the people I know with one.

Post 6

:p Fair enough.

Post 7

i havnt really looked into it at all but if xecuters selling this dvd drive as part of this mod pack does it mean the drive is a direct replacement or does it just sit outside ???

That drive is just for your PC. It's MTK-based, almost identical to the Samsung featured in most 360's. Better for 360 homebrew developers, apparently.

Edit: Also, Hitokiri - every Xbox 360's DVD-ROM has a unique code written into the firmware. You need to hex-edit extract this and then re-insert it into the firmware of your replacement, if you ever find one. Otherwise it just won't work. Each unit is told which unique code to look for, if it's not there or it differs, you get a wonderful "contact support" message.

Since the "fall" dashboard update, you're also unable to switch from a Samsung to Hitachi drive (or vice versa), it just errors out - substituting unique codes doesn't work as the system recognises there has been a hardware change.

I've read that too. The Hitachi is even worse, that you can't even flash it. Basically my last option is to replace the motor drive, or simply replace the drive and swap over the PCB on it. Todays the last shot, if I can't find a replacement motor, then I go for a new Hitachi based drive. If that doesn't work, then it's a new XBox. ~_~

Finding a Hitachi drive will be a pain. You can definately flash them though, I guarantee it. You can actually flash them from Windows - far easier than the Samsung's. ;)
