i have recently bought a 7900gt for my computer... everything in it runs perfectly and its great, except for one thing

i constantly get BSOD (Blue screen of death) and i think the reason is that my power suply is too low (ive only got a 300watt crappy stock psu) and i am looking for something that is around 500watts and is quiet and cool.

thanks, Oliver

Go Antec if you can afford it.

300W is no use for high end Video cards especially not a generic PSU.

I've been doing some shopping around over the last two days as it happens as I'm deciding what PSU to put into my new Core 2 Duo PC.

I intend to start with a single X1950Pro card and then crossfire two of them later in the year when the price comes down.

I'll be overclocking the CPU and Videocard so I need a dependable unit.

Go to http://extreme.outervision.com/psucalculator.jsp and determine how many watts you will need.

For me a 430W unit would be ok but not when I add the second card, so I need a 500W or a 550W to be safe.

I've decided on the Thermaltake TR2 550W mainly for its low cost per watt ("15) based on some of the more serious units that go for "75+. Depending on the total price of my PC I'll fork out more dosh for an Antec PSU - They are the best brand PSU and have a varied list of models.

Have a look through pccasegear.com as a starting point along with other shops in your area and get an idea on cost.

I found these websites also very informative.
http://www.hardcoreware.net/reviews/review-338-1.htm A review of 8 Units in the 430W area (should be more then ok for your use)

Happy hunting :)

they are a decent psu, although 500w isnt very future-proof
i had one of these, 550w modular - was quite awesome
cables are great too.

if you're interested in silverstone or antec, let me know.

Post 7

lol cpu's are using less power where graphics cards are using more power so what do you do.

Post 8

i have a second hand antec truepower 380W....but im in canberra if u wanna pay postage

Post 9

lol i need sumthing over 400 watts, just because i got a 7900gt and i wanna use the psu for future upgrades. Im getting the Xfinity one, mainly because it is fairly cheap :P

Post 10

you'll want more then 500w if you buying that psu for future upgrade i recommend over 600w just to be sure.
untill graphics cards start using less power and who knows if that ever going to happen.
