Hey all, not sure if this is the right place to put something like this or whether it is even allowed so please delete if you deem unappropriate.

just a quick question, is there any place in darwin or anybody in darwin who does PS2 modchips at a reasonable price?

I've tried everything electronics but they are not doing ps2 modchips for the time being and are charging $210 for an xbox one using a "0 modchip :S ($200 bux on labour... go figure)

So if anyone knows of anyone/thing that can do it please let me know.. it is for a PS2 slim...

Thanks in advance!

Modchips are extremely difficult to put in. It does take quite some skill and time to do so. I have never done an X-Box but the PS1-2 were not easy.
$200 is a little bit steep about "50 would be a fair price IMO. I dont know of any other place up here that does them.

XBox modchips require some tricky soldering so $200 for labour isn't as far fetched as you think... If you don't solder it properly your XBox is stuffed and instead of wasting "0 for the chip you waste like $300 for your console...

I bought a solderless adapter and chip, for my xbox, it was extremely simple and took about 20minutes. It would have been a 10minute job but I'm a clumbsy oaf with big fingers.

Now for PS2's, I'm not sure what the dealio is, in regards to wether or not you can get solderless kits.

I went solderless because i refused to pay "50 for a kit to be put in.
So far the solderless is doing fine - been using it for about 5months now.

oh ok thanks guys... yeah I dont really know much about soldering and the works but i just thought it was kinda expensive for the labour...

thanks for the input I'll keep shopping around for someone who can maybe do it for me if I purchase the chip myself then :)

if anyone does hear or anything or would like to make a quick buck let me know :)

thanks again

Theres alternatives if you don't want to get mod chips...

There's a thing you can get called PS2 Swap Magic
http://www.coolpc.com.au/catalog/product_info.php?cPath=143&products_id=1301

If you have an original PS2 you just use the slide tool to cover the sensor that makes the PS2 notice that discs are removed so that you can put the loader disc in and then switch it with the one you want to play....

If you have a slimline theres other tools which don't really require opening up the PS2...

Mod chipping is actually extremely easy and the soldering usually required is entry-level work. It can be performed in less than 20 minutes if you've done it a few times.

If you're being charged more than "00 then they're really stretching their profit margin as the chips only cost $5-$35 for PS2 and Xbox if you're buying them in bulk or from a distributer rather than retail. The DuoX 2 chip for the Xbox costs USD $9.90 retail from Divineo.cn. There are a huge range of chips under USD "5 for the PS2 also.

There are places around Sydney that will provide the chip and perform the work for $60.

Also; please keep in mind that if the chip you get installed doesn't circumvent region encoding for games, it is illegal - both you and the installer are at risk. Thankfully, most chips do this.

Anyone know if the Wii modchip is available in Australia yet? (I know you can buy it from overseas).
