me: yes hello id like to get someone to fix the phone line, it is cracking really badly and lots of static
telstra: hmmm, i can hear you fine here, it must be your equipment
me: o rly? i doubt that
telstra: i'll just run some line tests
*2 mins later*
telstra: nope, all tests are fine - it must be your equipment. i'd say its your foxtel box
me: we have austar cable, it doesnt effect the phone line
telstra: oh, well it must be your home security system
me: nope, dont have one of those
telstra: caller id box?
me: nope
telstra: answering machine?
me: nope
telstra: oh well it must be your cordless phone, try using your telstra rented phone
me: but the cordless was bought from the telstra shop
telstra: unfortunately, we can only help if you are using the telstra phone provided with the line rental
me: ok then
*unlugs cordless phone and uses crappy corded telstra touch phone*
me: nope, still static and crackling
telstra: hmmm, it must be that you have more than one phone line outlet, run an isolation test and unplug everything except for this phone, even the adsl line filters
me: have already done this...twice.
telstra: oh well lets just try it again
me: but if i unplug the line filter, i wont be able to use the phone
telstra: oh, ok just unplug everything except for this phone and its line filter
*unplugs everything - router, line filters, 2nd phone*
me: nope still static and crackling, and its causing the adsl connection to drop out frequently
telstra: well it has to be something on your end to do with your equipment. we will run some more tests and get back to you.
*a week later*
telstra: we can send someone out, but not until tuesday
(come tuesday this is will be nearly 2 weeks of this problem)
oh and its going to cost you 88 dollars if its an issue with your equipment
me: gee thanks.
