I finally started to get a bit of spare time from work and begun playing around with building a website for a band. Hoping some of you may be able to post some helpful critique. Mostly still in construction, but reasonably operational.
Good chance i could be getting back to darwin in the near future, to help out training guys to fly Airnorth's new Jet, and thinking perfect time to catch up for a lan or two at dga.
Anyway, any suggestions or comments appreciated.....
My point of view? I realise this is a site for a band, but please make the music optional - perhaps making the flash ipod tool a rollover or something?
Also, the green date headings are a bit hard to read against the white background - but the overall layout is nice.
Welcome back P-Air :) Just had a quick look at the site. I agree the green on white is a little hard to read, might also be because I'm not wearing my glasses atm.
Add some more photos as you get them, that section could be beefed up a little.
I'm pretty sure i met Frankie when i was on TI last year. He works at the cultural centre there doesn't he?
umm music is optional... unless somethings been changed since u were last there... agreed with the green on white being hard to read maybe just make it bold and it will be fine its a lot better than seaman dan's site
Hey thanks for all the comments guys, its appreciated, i too have been mulling over whether to have the music play automatically or not, even though its a band site, I agree, i too dislike sites playing music if i didnt start it. I shall add a rollover as suggested and set it to not autoplay. Shall work on trying to make the green a little easier to read too. Thanks for that one, i didnt really take notice of it myself, i like the suggestion to make it bold.
Phoenix, yep you are right, frankie does work at the cultural centre. Great enthusiastic lad he is too, and have plenty of pics too add, i was a little hesitant to add too many, but, i guess, is all about content hey.
I think the logo needs some serious work. A more accurate representation of the logo they've drawn in the sand would look much better in my opinion, with a Serif font, and the N&X attached to each other.
The template in terms of layout is perfectly fine, but the from a graphics perspective it feels like a recycled purchasable item or something that might have come free with an open-source CMS. It doesn't feel very "band-like" or unique, and could probably do with some more music orientated art and customisation specific to the band. The colours are strong and vibrant, no complaints there.
I guess the only other critique is to remove the counter from the front page display and keep stats in an admin/backend page that the band can view, rather than have it open to the public.
