Hey all,
Have a HDD that doesnt seem to power up (doesn't seem to vibrate or be active when i touch it when the other are). Is there ANY way of fixing this? It was part of a raid0 array so I kind of really need it back :) Having such a shit day I know what the answer is, but thought I'd give it a shot anyway...
Given its not powering up, only things I can think of would be replacing the drive board with another drive's of the same make short of a data recovery service. Pala would probably have some better ideas.
Try a different power connector from the PSU.

I have tried this and found it has worked. Possibly the bearings have seized or a part has internally.
First drop the drive flat on a solid wooden bench or peice of wood from about 12 inches up so it lands on the circuit board side.
Plug it back in and listen if it spins. If it doesnt do this next step.
The other way is to place the drive into a freezer for about two hours. Then repeat the drop technique. The cold will cause the parts to shrink ease the seizure and hopefully if the cause is due to seizing the drive will spin enough for you to recover your data.
This may appear savage but belive me it can and does work and you would be amazed.
If its not seized I have no idea re the electrical side

Just make sure you're putting the drive in a glad bag while it's in the freezer mate. ;)
If you don't have another HDD of exactly the same type mate your probably shit outta luck. :(

pull out the layers and slap them in another drive the same type ..
thats an extreme though
It's not powering guys, dropping it or freezing it isn't going to work, no moving parts to get stuck in the PSU assembly of a drive.

So my next suggestion of plugging it directly into a 3 phase wall socket is of no use either?

best bet, might be to take the layers out onto a new circuit board.
same brand has worked for me once.
praying to jesus might fix it as well.
Failing that I have tried 3 hail Marys, :)
