I've got an athlon 1.2ghz with Asus a7a266drr mobo, anyone know what temp normal running temp is? My just went upto 50°C for some strange unknown reason, never done that before :|
Its running at 40 now with a fan blowing on it.

That temperature read out is not from ure cpu core.. I believe it a thermal sensor somewhere on ure mobo ( i assume under the mobo ) you would need a athlon xp that has a thermal diode and a motherboard that reads the temp ...

The thermal sensor on the motherboard is probably directly under the CPU. If you take the processor out there should be a funny blob-like thing on two wires in the middle of the CPU socket that would press against the base of the chip when it is seated.
As for 'normal' temp, do you really mean motherboard temperature, or CPU temperature? If it is CPU temperature, anything under 60 is safe, but at 60 I'd be looking to invest in a new heatsink. The lower the better. 50 is fine. 40 is great. 30 needs airconditioning [Blocked image]

Neo my 1.2 gig Athalon has been running at around 60 up to 64 with no probs.
If I take the side cover off it drops to low 50's, but the dust gets in.
I have run this since September last year and have yet to cook it. Hope this helps.

Ok from a electronics standpoint, those chips are stored @ approx 80 degrees C in the factory. Now I mean the cores are stored that high. Reason being it ensures there is no moisture B4 they are sealed in the substrate..
Working temps to that limit will not damage them, irrespective of what voddoo mumbo jumbo PC salesppl will tell U..
Now having said that, we had a Athlon 750 PC @ Adel Uni and the cpu fan stopped, this thing sat over a weekend with no forced air..
The system froze and wouldnt reboot on Monday Morn, so a investigation found that they could boil water by dropping the HS into a glass of cold water, get the idea..
Fan was replaced and its booted straight up and infact its running fine today..
Dont sweat it over CPU temps, in the " real world " 60 degrees is nothing to even think about..
Tho temps over 60 degrees for prolonged periods of time, will shorten the life of the cpu...
Keeping it running @ a really high temp and it MAY shorten the life of it down to say 10 years..

50 degree C motherboard temp? Has your OS crashed yet at those temps Neo? If not its ok..
My cpu runs at 60 degrees idle (side panel on) and mobo 44 deg. gets hot for a XP1800 but no crashes yet...

my 1800+ idles at around 55C, doing something like video compression (or anything that hits 100% cpu usage for an extended period) heats it up to around 63C, at which stage random reboots start occurring. my air conditioner fixes the problem but introduces another one, my mother bitches at me.

Things like that. Where do you keep your pc? AirCon or Not.
Cause dude that quite high.
Your mobo temp should be somewhere near room temp.
But let me know, Im abit worried about those temps

heatsink/fan: GlobalWin wbk-38, 7000rpm fan(i think)
1 80mm exhaust fan at the back.
1 80mm intake fan at the bottom front
PC is underneath my desk, and there is no aircondition in house, just ceiling fan. My home gets hot (its brick and we do alotta asian cooking [Blocked image] mmmmmm yummy, so it gets around 33deg in house)
When i take side panel off, cpu temp ranges from 52-60 and mobo 37-44...
highest cpu temp ive seen was 64deg. that was playing a GF3 demo (chameleon) for about 10 mins, also playing RTCW did it also... (encoding divx gives me 60 max..)
Yeah me bit worried, but no crashes due to heat yet...
