I have an Athlon 1.2 with a Gigabyte 7zxm Mobo. Over 700 meg ram and have just intsalled a Geforce2 MX400 64 Meg Video Card.
When I play CS I contsantly have problems with the machine locking up. I hve downloaded and installed the latest Nvidia Drivers but it still does it.
I have also installed the latest copy of Direct X.
When it locks up the puter it goes into a continuos sound loop. I cannot reboot the machine by using the old 3 finger salute nor can I just hit the escape key.
I have to reboot from the button on the tower.
I have also spoken to another gamer with the same card installed and he too has the same problem.
Whilst at the EVO lan my machine locked up that many times it gave me the #$((@@@. So if you are able to shed any light on this problem I would be appreciated.
I tried what was suggested in the link up the top...
Spent 2 hours changing XP so it didn't use ACPI anymore....went into my BIOS and manually assigned IRQs to various slots and _eventually_ got my SBlive on an IRQ all by itself.
Quite cuffed at my achievement I jumped into a game and 5 mins later fire..fire..fire...fire..fire....fire....fire
3 Fiinger salute...
Only improvement so far is tha about 3 out of 5 times now the 3 finger salute will recover and I can end the HL.exe process rather than every lock requiring a Hard reset.
Using Latest creative driver (CS voice works now) Detonato 23.11 (tried 21.81s and 21.85s - no diff) Intel chipset drivers not currently upgradeable under XP
The only other thing that I know of is that have you tried reinstalling Half-Life and then tried??? Cos that doesnt work, what you need to do is go through the regedit and find anything that had to do with Half-Life (after unistalling it) and delete it all.
If you dont know what to look for when deleteing stuff in regedit for Half-Life then you shouldnt bother trying otherwise you might have to REFORMAT [Blocked image]
