Hey guys just got a power issue with 3 systems I just built same cpus and mobo?s vid cards are a bit different and one of them is water cooled the others are just silent cooling. CPU: E6430 core2 Mobo: GA-P35-DS3P VID:8800gtx other pc has a 8800gts Corsair sli mem Now that?s the basic spec my problem is the power the motherboards have an extra 12v cpu power and it does make mention that you do need to use the 12v x 2 option when using an Intel extreme processor because they use 130watts Now 2 of the systems have 430wat TT psus in them and the other one has a 470 tt silent running psu, The problem is there is not enough power to boot the systems some times and its basically almost impossible to run them with the cpu fan plugged in but if the fan is moved to the system fan slot it will run move it back to the cpu fan slot and the fan wont work and the system will boot weird huh, im kinda outa ideas and short of going out and buying a next gen psu and blowing 400bucks id like to know what you guys think, the 4th system I made for my miss?s is basically the same E6430, 8800gts gig of corsair but it has a lower end asus mobo works fine and is bullet proof.
Well anyone got any ideas I wont be checking this for 2 weeks going out to play war games again but leave as much info as you can, my verdict so far is new psu?s
TT PSUs aren't much better than the standard dodge generic PSUs you get. Even if they are rated '430w'. Premium brands like Silverstone and Seasonic at the same rating would already be infinitely better, do note that premium doesn't mean more expensive in this case. :p
8800gtx's draw a fair bit of power, something close to 600w should be safe. I think Doyen's running two 8 series cards on something like that.
Something else to consider is that I saw a few threads and bits of info floating around about problems with the DS3P's. I'll post back here if I find out what they were.
Have you even been able to get them to POST? Post back whenever you finish lasering mofos around the place.
Yeah i know tt psus are no diff to the av erage everyday psus jay :P then again its always good to list everything when u cant get stuff to work all that good, yeah i got the systems to boot and they run the prob is you cant run the cou fan of the cpu fan socet and if you drain the power from the sytems once its of it takes a bit of fiddeling to get them going again, its strange i think im going to need a new psee with 2 x 12v 4 pin connecters or try and find one with a 8 pin pwr connecter, stuck out field for another week and a bit so i cant do much till i get back
Could be a dodgy fan header or board. I know that most motherboards come with some sort of throttling control for the CPU which means it goes through some electronics along the way.
System fan headers I _believe_ are just straight from the psu to motherboard plug to system fan header pins.
Other than that it's a problem on more than one board, manufacturing problem or back to the psu again. You don't really know.
If you're using generic PSU's you really need 550w+ as in reality they won't even deliver that much power.
If you're running a Silverstone or Neo HE on the other hand, 450-500w would have actually cut it because they can deliver their rating.
Ie; I'm running a 500w Neo HE with an E6600 clocked at E6800 speeds (3GHz), an 8800GTX OC (requires 2 PCI-E power cables as you would know), 2 SATA HDD's and a couple gigs of DDR2-667... not a worry in the world.
