Got my new computer n stuff and I'm just wondering...

Why in the hell am I getting frames exactly equal to my 6800GT in my old computer? Is it the drivers that came with it? Even tried the 162.18 Nvidia, 32bit drivers and its still sucking  **** Im getting 29 FPS with WoW on full graphics and I'm not even it Lagrath or Lagforge! Me thinks I got a lemon :(

Anyone know whats the prob? :(

In order...

- Update mobo with latest bios.
- Update system with latest mobo chipset drivers.
- Don't run the latest Nvidia beta drivers. Use the latest WHQL drivers.
- Update Windows.
- If you're running Vista, install THESE hotfixes as well.

Let us know once you've done all this.

Post 4

What are the WHQL drivers and whats a actual "Working" version of Nvidia display drivers that dont suck like the latest ones

Post 5

I just noticed you're using 162.18 - these are the latest WHQL. Which means they aren't the problem.

Complete the other steps and get back to me.

Post 6

Tried latest WHQL drivers 162.18 even older versions, got latest Mobo and chipset drivers

Status: Still running like crap and worse than my 6800gt

Or you know, you had done a bit more reseach into buying your graphics card/system, and realise an 8500gt has pretty much the same performance as a 6600, but with a dx10 feature set. Therefore your card is actually slower then your 6800gt

Post 8

lol what exactly were u expecting from a 256mb entry level card?

Post 9

Wait for DX10 games before you complain.

QFT. The 8500 is pretty hopeless regardless. Marginally better than the 8400 you see in laptops.

Post 11

what they all said, you went from a top of the line card (for its time) to a bottom of the line card, don't expect good things.

Post 12

So yeah I guess in the end, after all my bitching, about this 8500 I never really checked any of its reviews, I only though "Wow Geforce 8 series" and nothing else, I thought it was better than the 6800 and was wrong, and I went down to the computer shop, had a Rant to them about it staying at 30fps on WoW and they said "Holy shit and my 4200 runs it faster" so now their giving me my "75 plus the $80 for the D-link Wireless card I never got and I just gave my brother my old computer for $400 and am now buying a ****ing 8800Gts and picking it up today :D

Yes I am dumb and I am checking reviews now -.- I was just too over taken by idiocy of the number "8" just a bit behind in the computer world at the moment :( but am gonna have to start lookin these things up before /RAGING about it

Post 13

Where abouts did ya get your 8800gts from? And how muchies? I'm thinking of grabbing one..

Post 14

Got it from Terrorbyte Computers in Palmerston, $640 =/

Winfast Leadtech PX8800GTS just got me one, and damn are they bulky

Post 15

there is a big difference between wholesale and retail you know :)
not everyone can get the prices you get

Post 17

RRP on the 640mb is $650. Knowing the wholesale prices, RRP and being able to do basic maths (read, add in reasonable markup) gives us a pretty good measure for determining what is and isn't a good retail purchase price.

Post 18

Hopefully he got the 640mb then... otherwise yes, he got ripped off.

Post 19

Was the 320 I got, but I hate waiting anyhow hehe and I'm happy with it for now

Edit: Also, my computer in the first place wasnt suppose to come with a D-link Wireless Card so anyhow basicaly I got discounted $80 on the card hehe

Theres wanting stuff now and there's paying an extra $200 on something :/. Takes about a week to get stuff ordered from online tech sites and dropped off in Darwin.

Post 25

Jeez!!!

$640 for a 320mb gts is wayyyy to much! Even for a local store!
