Hi guys, I'm new to DGA, just signed up today,

Running a Dell XPS M2010 Laptop (Don't knock it till you've seen it :P), stats are

CPU: Pentium Centrino Duo Core 2.4Ghz
RAM: 2GB DDR2
HDD: 2 x 100GB 7200RPM
GFX: ATI Radeon X1800 256MB
OS : Windows XP MCE 2005

Designed as a "Concept" Laptop by Dell, the system was the only laptop that i could find at the time that sported Wireless Keyboard and mouse as primary human input devices, a 20" Plasma Screen, a dual layer DVD burner, 8 speakers and Subwoofer onboard as well as onboard Card Reader, 4 USB ports, DVI output and Optical Sound outputs as part of the base unit. Got it just over a year ago for $6,500 and been performing great as a Media Center ever since. Got a Logitech G11 Keyboard (didnt need the LCD of the G15) and a G7 mouse to replace the ones that came with the computer to assist when gaming, and a 300GB Maxtor OneTouch II HDD for Data storage, but apart from that the system is still baseline

As far as games go, I've been playing since the time of StreetFighter (the first one, on my old 486) but as far as games go, ive played

Strategy:
Dark Reign (never played the second one)

StarCraft
Warcraft
Company of Heroes

then onto FPS games
F.E.A.R
Tom Clancy GRAW and GRAW 2

World of Warcraft (and TBC Expansion, gave that up about 8 months ago now)
Vanguard, Saga of Heroes (Gave that up about 3 months ago now)
Silent Hunter 4 (RPG)

Time Shift (by sierra i think)
Pirates of the Burning Sea (Upcoming MMORPG, release date Jan next year)

Apart from gaming, Im into 4 Wheel driving (more into the touring aspect than the extreme offroad aspect), boating and camping. I work shifts in Darwin, some really odd times so coming to forum meets sometimes won't be possible, but everyones got real life committments anyway.

The only problem I ever found with the M2010, is the really underpowered video card, for such an expensive machine. Even my old XPS m1710 has a better video card.

Hopefully the A2010 will remedy that.

Still I don't know if I can get this laptop/desknote through the ATO for salary sacrifice.

lol, TF2 hasnt officially been released yet, EB says 25 October... either you guys pre-ordered or... no, you guys wouldnt use torrents... *runs away finds orange box torrent*

Finally got the shits with BF2142 then... been telling myself it would get better, then finally cracked it and done the whole rage/quit/uninstall thingie... downloading bf2 again coz i cant find the install cd (but i can find the 1.4 update and Highway Tampa map pack...) and hopefully can remember my login/password... Love being a commander in BF2...

Download steam then purchase Orange Box from it. It's legal, cheaper (assuming) and ya get it now :P, Ohh welcome to GU.

Got steam (still play CS:Source) and didnt realise how cheap TF2 was without all the crap that comes with the orange box... should have it by the morning and be playing by tomorrow night... what server do you guys normally play on?

much cheaper, the aussie dollar is over 90 us cents atm, most it has been for ages

Sounds like your only going to buy TF2.... for Gods sake buy the whole Orange box through steam not just TF2... Portal is a great game too.

sorta like i bought the box set of CS:S and don't play half life 2 and day of defeat...i dont buy many games these day, and the ones i do i play a lot... i'll torrent portal first and if its a good game i'll buy it, if its shit i won't... only $20 for portal by itself, and i've already started the TF2 download... getting 270kb/s atm and 64% done...

Fair enough... only you wont be able to play Portal without paying for it as it runs through the Steam client.

Stop being cheap and fork out the $50 for everything!! HL2 Ep1, Ep2, and portal are well worth it. With TF2 to boot, how can you go wrong?? Seriously, portal was like the trippiest game I've played this year, and thats saying alot lol

I might have to torrent portal, as my retail copy won't boot.

As i said, i've already bought TF2, not in the bundle, and i don't buy many packaged games because i rarely play the other ones, so they are a waste of money... If i like it, i'll pay for it, if i dont like it, i wont... that way im not spending $300 a month on games that i dont end up playing for long...

So you spent $30 buying TF2, where you could have spent another $20($5 per game) on top to get the pack. Each to their own I guess.

portal + tf2 = worth a hundred bucks imo. i'll easily play these games far more than any console game, or any other game that isn't a damn good mmo.

Yeah, similar to the way i bought CS:S bundled with 2 other games which ive never played... could have bought CSS by itself for probably $20 cheaper, and would still be in exactly the same situation as i am now... granted $20 isnt much, but im sortof trying to afford the $3000 bed thats supposed to be delivered on friday, and the $2000 suspension lift kit for my 4by, then a customised tray thats anywhere up to "0,000... and you get the picture... if i waste $20 a week on shit i never use, I'll waste over a thousand dollars a year... again, if i decide to buy portal, itll cost me $20 more... then i'll be in the same situation as if i bought it bundled, but i wont have Half life episode 2 or the other game with it... question is, will I like portal enough to buy it, or would i ever play half life episode 2, or the other bundled games... if the answer is no to either of those questions, i've just scored myself 3 free meals at hungry jacks, or a third of a tank of fuel...

Team fortress 2 is absolutely insane! Best words that come to mind is an RPG mixed with Counterstrike, high on speed...

My favourite characters so far are the Medic, the Engineer, and the scout... in no particular order...

I'll take the fuel.
