Under better judgements, I am not making the decision on the following people ..

These people are either

1) Registered, and didnt come.

or

2) Registered, attended and didnt pay.

If your name is listed below, you have 7 days to pm INSIDIOUS in regards to why you shouldnt be blacklisted and allowed to attend future DGA Events.

Names

Blackhawk
Campa
Crackwhore
fxs4u
Myplauge
Plugger
Sniper
Toki1
Wortel

If your name is above and you believe it is there in mistake, dont stress please just pm insidious and talk it out with him. He is much more forgiving then I am :D

Cheers

thats me before i changed to dragonxr

thow it hasent been changed even when i asked

Post 11

lol blacklist.

Awesome logic, not many people showed up, lets BLACKLIST THE PEOPLE WHO DIDN'T SO THEY REALLY CAN'T EVER SHOW UP NEXT TIME YEAH!

Why not give them a reason to go? rather than threaten them :P

Post 12

i agree mark, but just held back form saying it as i don't attend lans anymore and it doesn't really affect/concern me.
there will always be a few people that don't turn it, thats life. they shouldn't need to explain to a jury why not.

yes their registration and lack of attendance costs 1 place at the lan but you need to look at over catering to allow for people who cannot make it. you can always fill the place by someone who wants to come and may have not been able to register.

on that note if you do register and cannot make it do the right thing a unregister or notify staff before the LAN so they can fill your position. it costs the LAN money to have your place empty and if DGA don't make numbers they cannot provide the LANs you guys are after.

you really have no idea...

were you there?

there was a good turn out,

what you might not realize is we had a list of people that we turned away because we had 40 confirmed, so i think a blacklist is required, it doesnt mean you are banned, means if you are on the list you will have to pay up front to confirm your place for the next one

this list is of the people who did not let anyone know they werent coming

its not the money but the opportunity they took away from the people who would of actually come

if they couldnt come it wouldnt of taken much to let someone know and give someone else that opportunity to attend, as for explaining themselves to a jury, i think its fair to ask why we shouldnt have them on our list, i would feel i have let the people who couldnt come down if i didnt.

Post 14

If you're on a blacklist, it means your banned, thats why they call it a Blacklist. it creates a bad feeling towards DGA, and really isnt neccessary.

And 40 people is **** all, even if the venue was only big enough to support 40, DGA used to be alot bigger than that, and its hardly their fault that the planning on the venue and how many people could be seated was poorly thought out. like craig said, you need to overcater because you'll sometimes get more than what registered.

It's ment to be a fun event, not a mandatory requirement, people will always not show up, its nothing new, its only a LAN. In the end, its not my place, i can't attend lans, and im not running it, i just think its things like this people would frown apon...and i would hate to see DGA turn to shit.

Post 15

well i define a black list a little different but that is neither here nor there, 40 people is shit all its true. and in case you havnt noticed DGA had already turned to shit

when did it become a mandatory requirement?? did anyone force anyone to sign up?? (maybe i tried to force Dragon to sign up to eXe but that is my bad)

all we ask is that if you sign up and say you are going to come is that you at least have the courtesy to let us know if you change your mind

speaking of courtesy you may like to try some, nothing was poorly thought out we were forced into a smaller venue due to lack of numbers in the past and the costs incurred by people not showing up, so in response to that i think at least in part it is their fault that this sort of thing has come to pass

i dont think this will or needs to change, the people on this list will be required to pay up front for the next LAN, it would still be refundable if they inform us that they cant attend

its not a ban in anyway.

Post 16

I think a blacklist is a good idea. Not banning people as such but making them pay upfront. Maybe you should have a 2 strike rule though.

I don't think Heretic has any idea what running an organisation entails ;)

Post 17

the blacklist is a good idea.

But can we call it something different, like "Insids naughty list"? :p

Nice chattin to ya BTW Insidious, pardon my "rather ordinary" state though.

LOL @ the GPS convo you, Lothar, and myself had.

Post 18

Blacklist has a bad tone to it but aside from interpretation of how the word makes you feel its really needed for something with limited spots.

Post 19

i like black list- the barstards should have paid instead of scab. One would think they have done this many times. I like the idea of a blacklist and i think of it as 'done something wrong' - have disadvantages for next time

Post 20

Well the ones who showed up and didn't pay. Those ****s should be banned.

Post 21

Blacklist is a great idea it's a public lan run by an organisation (however small) not some thrown together lan at the last minute hence the registration and the whole paying for it thing. If people do not show up and it takes away from another person then they should be put on notice to deter them from doing it in the future. I understand some people aquire commitments and are unable to attend and thats unfortunate but I dont believe people should register to secure a spot just in case they decide they want to go. Think of it this way if you register it "IS" a commitment.

Post 22

We can always rename it something more technical and confusing so it has an acronym like B.L.A.C.K.L.I.S.T......

Post 23

what you mean?
Bastard
Lazy
Arse
C*nts
Killing
Likelyhood of
Interest
Stretching
ToofutureLANs (yes thats one word)

Post 24

we had atleast 10 that were turned away due to full registration ..

we then had 9 that didnt show (listed above)

Thats "80 that DGA missed out on. This then effects what we can offer for future lans, be it venues, hire projectors, hiring chairs etc etc.

It all comes back to the gamers. As far as DGA goes, I (yes I run DGA) can only do so much with what I have.

Im happy to announce that DGA came out on top from this LAN, and hoping that a few more like this will put us in the Green, and take us to hopefully building on numbers and moving back into annual EVO's.

Call the blacklist what you want, its there to stop people registering and not showing or coming and not paying .. It is DGA responsibility to make sure people pay, but no doubt we will miss the few that sneak in be it on purpose or forgetting to pay. Everybody knows if they come and set up they should be paying.

Also these fourms are a DIRECT link from DGA's website, so this is actually DGA's fourms and not particular GU. If that makes sense, to Solomons comments of not everybody reads GU.

Again great lan. Good support from all those envolved and I hope to run another event soon.

Post 25

there are simple effective ways to get everyone attending to pay

one is to get stickers, when they pay you write their alias on the sticker and tell them to stick it to their pc/monitor. easy way of knowing who has and hasn't paid.
should it have to be done? no in a perfect world people will be honest and pay at the first chance they can. but its not a perfect world is it.

as far as the "you know what list" goes, i dont totally agree with it but hey its your call. you guys put your hand up to resurrect DGA and i see that as a great step for the gaming community. the lan seemed to run well according to feedback and i can give nothing buy support for you guys.

great job.

Post 26

Blacklist is a great idea, too many people sign up and don't show up; especially when they know its full. It's one thing to sign up and not show up when there are still places left, but to not show up when the list is full and people are missing out? its bs. I was going to bring 2 people but didn't due to full spots. Even when there are places left you are giving a false number on the people going and a lan might be held with only a few people which would put dga into debt, fast.

As for not paying if you are going, i managed to pay and i was broke as that weekend, i mean cmon its only 20 bucks. I am guessing though that this is a small infrequent problem.

Stickers on cases for paid ppl is a good thing, and worth doing.

And as for people complaining about the blacklist who aren't even going - its not really any of your business is it?

Post 27

good idea on the stickers

Post 28

Surely in this day and age, with paypal and direct deposit ALL places could be pre-paid?

Just a thought for your future events.

Post 29

ooh, good idea. Make it cheaper to pre-pay for the lan ahead of time.

Pre-pay: $20

on the day: $30

Post 30

Where is an independently wealthy gamer with too much money to throw around and a big ass shed with 3 phase, Aircon and a kick ass net connection when u need one?

Post 31

sif net connection

Post 32

well.. if people are upset about the name blacklist - what about Greylist, or MildlyDarkList, or my personal favourite: Pay Up You Useless ****s List =)

It's just a name! It doesn't matter if it's Idi Ahmin's Buddy List! People on it stuffed other people round for whatever reason and so have a minor requirement should they wish to join the next event.

At least they aren't being required to date Dragon's CrackWh0re that showed on the night... =)

Post 33

only problem i see with pre-pay discounts is people like me who are moneyoverthenetaphobic.... i refuse to use paypal or internet banking.... but when i register i always show...
if thats only for people who are "slightly off beige listed" then thats cool!

Post 34

pre paying would only be for those that are on the list.

Post 35

nice nice... then i wholeheartedly agree with said list!

Post 36

Ratty - you have more chance of losing/getting mugged walking there with actual cash than you do of netbank swiping.

Post 37

Post 38

gotta wear a flac jacket when u go to karama eh insid?
and if said jacket is the wrong colour...well nice knowing you :P

Whats the bet he's going to put it in his computer, then overclock it it's going to overheat and his weeks pay is going to catch fire?

$5 is my bet. =DDD Anyone else? xD

Post 43

lol i'll take that bet... since i know i would never do that..

Post 44

Out of Randomness and cause the thread was tldr
In my opinion, with the DGA Lans in future, the registered people should have to sign in at the door under their name and what time they arrived, aswell as have to Signout with what time written down too when they goto leave after packing their stuff up. I know that when many people start showing up its hard to keep track of everyone and who has paid but maybe bringing back the yellow stickers again will be a good idea, or w/e colour sticker your using :p.

Also, in regards to Lothars missing video card, there was a nice big camera in the back corner near the kitchen recording am I right? Knowing the manager there, you could maybe and possibly get footage of certain times of the day off of him if it recorded that much.

Post 45

I like the idea of a blacklist simply because DGA stopped running as a result of people registering and not attending.

I liked the sticker idea and if memory serves me we used to use a similar system anyway, but I like the idea of signing in and out aswell.

Post 46

The sticker system used to work fairly well.
