Im so tempted to start using it. So, whoa re the good providers? Do we get full speed downloads from the american hosters (like giganews).

BTW, im Node user, but from what ive read, it sounds like internodes usenet server is text only now.

Thx in advance (excpt for spam hoes)

Giganews ftw. 20 slots, SSL encryption, 140-odd days retention (moving up to 200).

Newzbin.com for searches.

Post 3

Thats who i was looking at, probably the silver plan.

Do giganews give out a client to use? OR do u need to aquire your own.

SabNZBD

Post 5

SabNZBD is the easiest route to take. It'll download, par-check and unrar it all so you just wind up with the finished item you want (ie; anal-orgy.avi).

Post 6

ok thx.

I perfer 2girls1cup.avi :P

that was weak....lemonparty is worse then that.

2girls1cup.com , now thats a different story, thats hard to watch (for the unsuspecting viewer) with a 2L coke and super meaty pizza.

Post 14

i still use newsleecher (hell, i even paid for it), haven't tried sabnzbd.

Post 15

im going to have nightmares

Post 16

Newsleecher rocks. Just so much manual handling after download (like any other normal usenet download client).

Post 17

slightly old news, but latest beta of newsleecher includes automatic repairing and extraction of downloads, including only downloading par files if necessary.

Post 18

Mmm finally time to upgrade my Newsleecher install then.

Post 19

Sorry to resurrect an old thread, however is anyone having issues with NZB downloads via Giganews?

I keep getting articles missing and they all look like they are all downloading but when it tries to process it, it comes up failed.

It is happening on all my attempts since 23/11.

Don't know what is happening.

Post 20

All good for me.

Post 21

Raker are you pulling them directly or via Sickbeard ???

It seems to be an issue with Sickbeard on occasion when usenet groups such a as NZB or Giganews change their api's, If there are nzb files are they getting snatched at only 1kb if so that's your problem. No real fix other than update Sickbeard and check your api's

Yes, about 70% of mine are missing blocks; but they've always been like that.
Fortunately I've (almost) always been able to recover them via par2's.

FWIW my client is Mimo.

Post 23

Just run SickBeard under linux - you can do Git updates via SickBeard itself (probably can via windows as well, just with more work).

Post 24

yeah, you open a DOS prompt first ;P

Post 25

PS. iPhone owners need to download Qouch. SAB + SickBeard + Couch Potato client.

Post 26

Thanks everyone.

Im just using NZBMatrix with SABNZBD to download.

Not heard of Sickbeard.

Whats my next move?

Post 27

Make sure sab is definitely grabbing the PARs?

Post 28

Yeah Im getting some pars, however not enough to cover all the missing articles.

The total files are downloaded, but when I check with the PAR program it says the files are invalid checksum

Post 29

So you need PAR files for your PAR files. :P

Post 30

Yes I think so :P

Post 31

Still Failed in MIMO too :(

Post 32

Scrap the lot reinstall fresh and start again?

If you're using Giganews as your only provider my guess is you're coming across files that Giganews have removed due to a DMCA request from the licence holder of the property, being the biggest provider they get copyright notices often and act accordingly. I first noticed this when I left Internode (at the time I left, Internode used 2 providers, Giga and Astra) last year and had to manage my own usenet subscriptions.

I suggest you try to create a backup/fill server in SAB using news-europe.giganews.com, the European servers apparently do not have the files removed like the US ones. This may fix your problem, however the euro downloads will be considerably slower.

The other option is to use a second/backup provider.

Post 34

Fleshy, thank you for explaining what is going on.

That has worked fantasticly.

Rec, now you need to add to the LIKE, the options for a big fat KISS :)

Thanks again Fleshy, it was Giganews in the US and their article caching.

Post 35

Your aim of 600 posts by 2010 not so good eh flesh? ;)

Post 36

Well, I've decided to go for content over volume :)
