Firstly a thank you has to go out to everybody who's been patiently waiting for the next DGA event.

DGA 2008 - Lan 2
Presented by THE I.T. SHACK
(No, not a new naming system, I can't remember which one it is... 40 something I think. ^_^')

DATE: Saturday 17th of May to the 18th of May
TIME: Start will officially be 12PM (Mid-day). Helpers required at 11AM, early setup allowed after setup complete. End time sometime Sunday. Usually 12PM, though pending numbers, should be round up by 2PM at the latest.
LOCATION: Around the back of Malak shops. The old Video 2000 building.
FEE: The first 15 entrants will be free! Everybody else is $20 cover charge.
REGISTRATION: We no longer require registration, however, the page WILL be up shortly. While it's not required any longer, it will help.
LIMIT: 50 people will be catered for (ie, 50 chairs, and enough space for a little over 50 on tables). This limit is soft, so any more then that we may accept you, but will stop you at the door if it gets too crowded.

GAMES: At this stage, nothing set in stone, however, games that are popular at the moment in LAN's are Crysis, BF4, Flatout 2, and Supreme Commander.
We'll be testing throughout the even Need for Speed Pro Street on a LAN as well, so that may be interesting.

CONSOLES: We're also very happy to announce the addition of console support. During the night we'll have a console corner, with a projector, and audio setup, which will be purely for break time style entertainment. The system will be PS3, aided by two dual shock controllers playing Gran Tourismo (or other games if supplied). Please note, no eating or greasy fingers on the controllers.
Personal consoles are also allowed during the event, along with your own viewing area. As this is a first for us, we'll be interested in what people feel would be appropriate for us to supply to make this a possibility. As it stands, we cannot supply any AV equipment for such things, and if you do with to bring a console, you'll need everything required to run it yourself. We can supply seats as per usual, and a table if needed.
At this stage, we request you let us know if you intend to bring a console with you. Thus we can ensure you have enough space for it.

FILE SHARING: Information will be provided at the event on how to file share larger files. Some files will be shareable on Bit-torrent as supplied by Neotheo. File sharing is allowed, but alternative sharing methods are suggested for large files (500mb+)

Rules: In general, the rules haven't changed. Still no speakers, and you're responsible for your own equipment.

Helpers: If you wish to assist in the setup of the DGA event, please feel to email me kagetsu.kensuke@madmilkdud.com.
Do not PM me, email is much faster. We don't need too many people, four should do it, naturally, the four would be have free entry for the event. (as part of the 15 first free).

Rules are as per previous LAN's and DGAs standard guidelines.
If you know someone who would be interested in this event, please let them know. We'll be starting an 'advertising compaign' of sorts this coming weekend, but word of mouth counts for a lot up here.
I'd also like to thank our newest and biggest sponsor The IT Shack for helping us with the running of the next LAN. We're looking forward to working with them now and into the future! Store location is next to the Adult Shop in Casuarina, near the Noodle House and Bob Jane.

Kagetsu
DGA Vice President.

UPDATE: Official Games List - May be updated as time goes on.

-Deathball
-Flatour 2
-Crysis
-UT3
-Rainbow Six: Vegas 2 (I'll have that to share)
-CoD4

What about GTA4 on show or to have a play of if anybody has it since it came out just of recent

Post 4

If someone has bought it, maybe, but I won't be playing it, or buying it for the PS3.

Post 5

I might bring it.

Post 6

No worries Dom. ^_^

Post 7

ill be there if i get my new computer up and running it will be great

Post 8

I can't wait to see it.

Now with parking, is there somewhere secure that we can all park our cars? I don't really want to be parking my car on the street as Im sure others will agree.

Post 9

isn't malak like... next to karama???

Post 10

There's a carpark outside that's big enough for everybody. There will not however be security.

What we're asking everybody to do is ensure you have no 'temptations' on any seats or visible. The other thing we'd like is for everybody to keep an eye on what's going on outside throughout the night. This is to ensure we can minimise any risk.

What we'll do is look into a security pressence for the evening (no guarentee's though at this stage). If it makes anybody feel better, bring your blunt self defense items with you. We tested out the facility last weekend, and we didn't end up having any trouble. The cold for the most part seems to take care of most of the riff raff. I'll also let the police know.

Also a quick note. I said Battle Field 4 in my original post, however, I did mean Call of Duty 4. ^_^' Sorry, my stupid.

Post 11

ahh was going to ask what BF4 was - wondered if Battlefield Heroes had been released on the quiet =)

annnnnnd I'll be there! woo! only for saturday again tho

Post 12

A quick request for information gentlemen (and ladies if there).

Right now, I have the following as listed competition events:

1. Flat Out 2 (one prize for first place, and one for runner up if close enough, as judged by Kagetsu and Neotheo... Unless it's us in the finals, then not)
2. COD4 (First prize, and maybe a booby prize for ultimate kill('s))
3. Crysis (First prize only)

Is there any other games?
For the most part those three games cover Driving game, Team game, and one on many game.
I'll have a preliminary game program up by this coming weekend.

REMEMBER PEOPLE! TELL YOUR FRIENDS!

Post 13

is COD4 cheap yet?? or still in the $99 bin?

Post 14

I don't know... It's definantly one of those worthwhile games though.

Post 15

you know your competing with Elton John.
BTW would love to go but warming up the crowd for barnsey that weekend.

Post 16

on a more important note, where is barnsey playing?

lol mmmm elton john sounds tempting..... BAhahaha..

sif go to elton john LAME!

Post 22

what im saying is those that want to go to the lan will be it they go to elton john beforhand or whatever.

Those that dont have a preference will do what they want to do more, be it elton and then go home, or just not see elton and go to the lan.

Post 23

worst case scenario wanna be thugs show up and cause trouble it makes in on the news and you just know they would find some way to blame it on the nerds and their video games... :P

Post 27

No worries Papadom,
I've updated a list of the supported games for the LAN. Not all of those games are there (not really wide enough) but there's no reason they can't be played during the LAN.
Did you want to organise a schedule for the night?

Post 28

is deathball a mod? and hopefully a few games of Hidden Source can happen ;P

If possible Kagetsu.

What did we normally do? 1.5 hour blocks with 15 min breaks in between?

Post 30

I think that's a good idea. You can be in charge of the schedules. I think 1.5 hours is a good time frame. 15 mins break is also a good idea. Don't make it too long, but it gives people a chance to get updated with the games. My server will be there at the LAN, but it'll be pretty bare bone at the moment.

Post 31

Okay, here is what I have drawn up thus far, if you owuld like something changed, please post up here:

9:45 - 10:15 - Unreal Tournament 3

ta,

-PapaDom

Post 32

please do NOT post up if you are going to be 'sharing' games, software or anything else that you SHOULD be buying.

Post 33

what sharing? I see no "sharing". What is this "sharing" you speak of? Does it come with a side of Cantelope?

Post 34

I can't speak for everybody, but I definantly own legitimate versions of games I play.

Servers are generally open source anyway.

Post 35

FFOW

Post 41

IMHO, it' all fine and dandy to make a list of games - Heck anyone can do that, but realistically we need a tight list of games that we know people will be willing to play.

If you don't mind, from what I have seen at previous LANs, I'm going to take off the list:

-HL2 deathmatch or team deathmatch
-Battlefield 1942
-Desert combat (mod for battlefield 1942)
-Battlefield 2

and add Team Fortress 2

Post 42

Agreed. Those games are fine and dandy. Really what we're looking for is 5 top games with suggestions on the day, with a vote system.

Post 43

will anyone be playing armed assault? would like to do some co op missions or something.....

well im bringing supcom FA, generals, WIC, ArmA.... trying to get my copy of crysis back.... oh well.... might even cross over to the dark side and play BF2.... will be going EB in the morning to get some other stuff probably.

Post 44

will there be a return of the intranet?

http://dga

as there has been a few times to download patches etc?

Post 45

there is a torrent tracker at that exact address. no signup etc nessessary.

Will make distribution of them larger free linux distributions faster and faster as more adn more people decide they want to join in on the fun and install linux too!

On a side note, no torrents files or files shared on the tracker are on the DGA machine. And we take no responsibility for what may be shared on this tracker.

If you want to use it at the lan, feel free, thats what its there for.

how to use bittorrent - Google Search
Bittorrent for noobs - Google Search

A couple of links for those who dont know what bittorrent is.

Post 46

The intranet will happen again in good time (hopefully by the next lan, though we'll see, maybe we could put it up at this one pending issues).

Post 47

Just an update. IF you have your own chairs please bring them. Due to Elton being in Darwin, there's an undersupply for the weekend. Not much we can do about it. We will still have some chairs, but if you have your own, it'll make it a lot easier all around.

Post 48

Okay, might try and find one of those "bucket" chairs.

Anyone know where I can score one from?

Here's what they look like:

Post 49

bunnings

Post 50

I have a bucket chair, but it's more of a camping one. It's pretty comfortable.

Post 51

I am soooo glad I checked the boards!

I am there.

PC Chair and xBox

Post 52

Okay, I need FTP access to the darwingamers photo galleries.

Thanks to Rob, we're planning to setup a running projection screen for the game schedule, that will double up as a photo montage with pics of the past LANs running whe whole time, and if photos will be taken during the event, they will be added.

Can anyone help me? If not, Friday night is going to be a loooong one.

Post 53

Yeah, I can help. Where do you need me to be?

Post 54

quick question, what's the aircon at the location like? :)

Post 55

Aircon is very good. I'll need help tomorrow however, giving them a goog clean.

Post 56

I'd just like to say a BIG TY to everyone who came down to the LAN and thankyou to the guys who helped out setting up, and packing away the tables as well as the people that helped out with odd jobs here and there (you know who you are).

Post 57

Are you sure it was a girl?

You know who your are :)

Post 58

Yea hella FUN

Sorry I couldnt hang around and help with the Clean up - My missus wanted me clean up he yard and take the crap to the Tip.

Whats the story neo - very cryptic - i have terrible visions!

Post 59

I was wondering that too. What I do know is that neotheo lost his voice. Most probably due to all the yelling and screaming at the Elton John concert

Post 60
