Sorry for the late update. ^_~
DGA 2008 - Lan 4
Sponsored by: Browns Mart NT, The IT Shack, Computers For You, Projection Plus

DATE: Saturday 23rd of August to the 24th of August

TIME: Start will officially be 12PM (Mid-day). Helpers required at 11AM, early setup allowed after setup complete. End time sometime Sunday. Usually 12PM, though pending numbers, should be round up by 2PM at the latest.

LOCATION: Around the back of Malak shops. The old Video 2000 building.

FEE: $20 Admission.

REGISTRATION: We request you register prior, it isn't required however. We cannot guarentee a seat if the venue gets crowded for unregistered people. Registration will be up soon.

LIMIT: 50 people will be catered for (ie, 50 chairs, and enough space for a little over 50 on tables). This limit is soft, so any more then that we may accept you, but will stop you at the door if it gets too crowded.

CONSOLES: There will be a console available for paying entries only to fill time, and for group entertainment. A seperate fee for console only play will be discussed prior to the LAN, and will be announced soon.

Personal consoles are also allowed during the event, along with your own viewing area. As consoles are a recent adoption by us, we'll be interested in what people feel would be appropriate for us to supply to make this a possibility. At this stage, we request you let us know if you intend to bring a console with you. Thus we can ensure you have enough space for it.

Please note, that we cannot supply viewing equipment for consoles, and you'll need to supply your own.

FILE SHARING: Information will be provided at the event on how to file share larger files. Some files will be shareable on Bit-torrent which is easily done, and will be fully explained at the LAN. File sharing is allowed, but alternative sharing methods are suggested for large files (500mb+). Regular slamming of network by filesharing will cease during competitions or if it's causing irregular gameplay.

RULES: In general, the rules haven't changed. Still no speakers, and you're responsible for your own equipment.

HELPERS: If you wish to assist in the setup of the DGA event, please add a comment.

Rules are as per previous LAN's and DGAs standard guidelines.

If you know someone who would be interested in this event, please let them know.

Kagetsu

DGA President.

It has been brought to my attention that when registering, a notification is brought up that suggests membership fee's etc etc.
DGA at the moment will not be implementing any fee's or membership discounts. We appologise for any confussion this has caused, and the registration page will be updated shortly with regards to the confussion.

bitch :P go to LAN!

Post 6

Shit, my Birthday is on the 20th and I'll be partying that weekend.

Post 7

its tempting

Post 8

Just a question ive been meaning to ask since the last lan. If the network is hooked up to the internet (as it was last time), do I have to worry about not having my firewall on? (I turn it off for the lan).

party @ LAN IMO....sif have non nerd freinds!!

Post 10

Don't bash me here if is say something wrong, this is totally my opinion, and not a taught/learned one(ie uni).

Well for me to answer that question fully I need to know why in the first place you
A) Turn your firewall off in the first place(at the lan).
B) Turned it on at the location you were at previously.

Now days with most people having ADSL routers personal computer firewalls at home networks (Ethernet) isn't really necessary, unless of you putting DMZ onto your own computer, as your router acts and stops most malicious attacks from the outside.

I am sure others with more background knowledge on the subject can elaborate more.

Edit: And I am in the process of completing a proxy/firewall/dhcp on a box at home for use at the lan, to stop people even atempting to play wow and other lan killing games.

Post 11

Ah yes, the hardware firewall. I forgot about that.
Its all good now, just wanted to make sure.

Post 12

Firstly, we don't endorse turning any firewall off... We dont' want to run any kind of risk. But we'll say, there's very little risk at the LAN, depending on how you look at it.

On the other hand, I turned my file sharing on with a shared folder, and ended up getting a virus propogating itself, because someone wasn't smart enough to NOT open an attachment. ^_~

Post 15

If anyone is playing Quakewars (Enemy Territory) online - PM if your interested in setting up a clan. (I upset a Kiwi Clan last night and I am a mark man! 56 kills they were so pissed and of course I didn't say anything back ... until the game ended HAHAHAHA love it)

Ps. It's not all brown!

true, it has some tan and beige in there too

Post 17

There is a snow map and a very blue one on another world. But mostly lots of brown.
Love your negativity
It's a better "team" game than any being played at the LAN

Post 18

I rate Vegas 2 a lot higher for team play myself - since you really DO need to depend on your teammates :)

Post 19

Each to his own.

Post 20

pfft who needs teammates :D

Post 21

Who needs 90 shades of brown.

pokes it in the ribs... But I do have it installed and ready to game on both :P

Post 30

uhm.. query for those of you with Flatout Ultimate Carnage now:

Quote:
Online multiplayer 2-8, achievements, friends
Flatout Ultimate Carnage is an online multiplayer game that utilises the Games For Windows Live option provided by Microsoft. There is no LAN ( Local Area Network ) Function provided within this game.

no LAN play? excuse the-**** me?? can anyone with the game confirm if this will be an issue at DGA or not?

Post 31

From what I can tell its only the Bonus maps you can

Not racing

Post 32

Wow thats lame, if true. Still, apparently theres not much difference between it and #2. So could just play that.

Post 37

Post 38

Excellent result! We'll be having a great night tonight I think, though we'll have to do slightly more traditional seating arrangements. ^_^

Post 39

Rad. Going to be there at 11ish to help set up.

Post 40

lan went really well!

hope to see you all at the next one :D

Post 41

Had a blast!

Good comps and some great games being played *coughflatout2cough*

I hope the next one will be even better! :)

Post 42

I have a couple of ideas floating around that I'll be bringing to the next meeting.

Post 43

What a blast of a night! Great to see new faces, and attendee's climbing. We had a solid thirty people this time. Hopefully we'll get more next time too! Thanks has to go to the lads who stayed back and helped clean up, and for those who came early to help setup. Tidy up was much faster then I thought it would be too! The next Lan, will be fantastic... Stay tuned for the dates to be announced soon.

Post 44

awesome LAN (the bit i was there for anyway ;P) good work guys and the vegas comp was kickass (well done Reaper!) :)

Post 45

Awesome fun!
I'm offically the worst vegas player ever lol.
Bring on Diablo 3 . . .

Post 46

show up next time, then you wont miss out :P

Post 48

maybe i would have if the vegas comp was advertised beforehand

Post 49

no-one knew beforehand :P it was decided by vote on the night :)

Post 50

There was a vote!!!!? Why didn't anybody tell me!? :P

Post 51

We went around asking everybody individually what they'd like to play as a comp. Since we had four comps/prizes... We needed four games. We did say there'd be prizes, and said the games we'd be playing too. ^_~
At the end of the voting... we only had time for two games with prizes... Vegas was the first comp, WarCraft III was the second comp... After that, it just got too late at night.

Vegas was certainly a lot of fun, but a lot of people agreed afterwards, that it wasn't quite fast paced enough.

Next LAN, we'll see how we go. We will likely be having COD4 and Trackmania comp though. Pending prizes we'll see how it goes.

Post 52

that map was too big was all - was a lot of running around the map chasing gunfire only to find the antagonists had died and/or moved on. or maybe that was just my brand of lag, who knows :)

Post 53

The WC3 comp was the definition of "not fast paced enough" :P
Vegas was alright.

Good lan. Plenty of gaming to be had even at 5:30am! :D
Nice to see the amount of people that showed up. (Maybe its what helped stop the place from freezing over at night :D)

Barely any Trackmania got played, Flatout 2 got a good thrashing though. If you wanna take that into consideration.

Post 54

nice turned out and was a good lan.

I noticed some late comers set up at the back beside the couch left their rubbish on the table which is not acceptable and I think they took off without paying as well. They left during the early hours of morning when most of us were sleeping I know I woke @7:30 they were gone.

Any more interest for the Gundam clone game for next Lan? Few people already got the game and Dragon XR definetly got a copy now and we had a few session with him in the morning. Play soo much like "Virtual On" a server can have as many as 10 players.

This is Malkoth btw

Post 55

shame i missed this one sounded like fun, but didnt want to bring my flu germs into the arctic-like temperatures :)

Post 56

Quake3 got a couple of round 2 thanks to 3Lee (meufool)

Post 57

Maybe a mic and a box to advertise stuff that happens at a LAN (sorry no offense to you Kagetsu and others) so EVERYONE can here even when in game for announcements on the night,

I agree about Flatout2. Was alot of fun and quite a few were playing it on the night.

Was semi-gentlmen rules at the end and alot of good racing was to be had by all lol

Quick note on that Gundam clone - the one you had at the LAN was fine, but i wanted a copy on my work machine so went and downloaded it - anyway got it from the original site and it has a trojan in it. The one from mirror moon is clean though (and a newer version).

I've been working on a LAN scheduling tool to put up on Welcome to RIAForge - it was meant to be done months ago but haven't had any time to work on it for awhile - this should help at future DGAs.
